Inter Kashi are just a point behind I-League table toppers Churchill Brothers.

Matchweek 16 of I-League unfolded with high-octane drama as Rajasthan United FC delivered a resounding statement by defeating Real Kashmir, shattering the latter’s aspirations of seizing the top spot. The final fixture of the opening day saw Nambhari and Churchill Brothers share the spoils, with both sides unable to break the deadlock, concluding in a hard-fought draw.

The day’s curtain-raiser featured an electrifying clash between Rajasthan United and Real Kashmir, where Maicol Cabrera stole the show with a clinical brace. Alain Oyarzun set the tone by breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute, swiftly followed by Cabrera’s strike just two minutes later, doubling Rajasthan’s advantage within the opening quarter-hour.

The match was capped off by a 92nd-minute stoppage-time goal from Gautam Virwani, sealing a crucial victory for Rajasthan United. This triumph not only derailed Real Kashmir’s title pursuit but also propelled Rajasthan United into the heated battle for the league’s summit.

The second fixture of Matchweek 16 witnessed a high-stakes showdown between Namdhari SC and Churchill Brothers, a fierce top-of-the-table clash with Namdhari eyeing the summit. Played at the Namdhari Stadium in Ludhiana, Punjab, the visiting Churchill Brothers struck first, with Pape Gasama breaking the deadlock in the 27th minute.

However, Namdhari found their way back into the contest in the 68th minute, converting a crucial penalty to level the score. Despite pressing for a late winner, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, securing Namdhari a hard-fought point and keeping them firmly in the title race.

Yet, the most dramatic twist came off the pitch, shaking the league standings to their core. In a shocking turn of events, Namdhari SC saw three of their points deducted following a ruling by the decision committee, which awarded the points to Inter Kashi.

This unexpected verdict drastically altered the dynamics of the points table, diminishing Namdhari’s progress while propelling Inter Kashi forward. The ripple effect of this decision has added even more intrigue to the title chase, leaving fans and clubs alike recalibrating their expectations for the remainder of the season.

The updated I-League points table has taken a dramatic turn following the recent ruling, with Churchill Brothers retaining their position at the summit. However, the biggest shift sees Inter Kashi leapfrogging both Namdhari SC and Real Kashmir to claim second place.

This sudden rise comes after the decision committee awarded Inter Kashi three points, ruling in their favour after Namdhari was found guilty of fielding a suspended player in their previous encounter. Inter Kashi now sit on 28 points, just a stone’s throw away from Churchill Brothers, and with a game in hand, their upcoming clash against Delhi FC presents a golden opportunity to seize the top spot.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan United has surged up the table, catapulting from the lower half to firmly secure a place in the top five with 24 points.
