The Indian women’s football team surely learned lessons from the two international friendlies.
The Indian women’s football team recently faced the Myanmar women’s football team in two international friendly matches as they ended their campaign against them with mixed results. They lost the first match by a 2-1 margin and the second match ended in a stalemate by 1-1. These friendly matches were hosted by Myanmar in the Thuwunna Stadium.
A month ago they faced Uzbekistan where they got similar results but against Myanmar they were expected to perform well unfortunately, they could not fulfill the expectations and the results were a bit disappointing. These friendlies were important for the Blue Tigresses to know their current level and it helped them to get some confidence in international matches.
Match Results
In the first friendly match, the Blue Tigresses suffered a 2-1 loss to the hosts, with goals from Win Theingi Tun in the 14th minute and San Thaw in the 74th minute. For the Indian team, Pyari Xaxa scored in the 57th minute, and both the host team’s goals came from set pieces. The overall performance from the away team was a bit disappointing as they were not able to play as they wanted but the host team took advantage of the setpieces to win the first fixture.
In the second fixture, the Indian women’s football team started the match very well but were not able to score any goals as the first half finished 0-0 in the second half Pyari Xaxa scored the opening goal for India but they were not able to keep the lead for a long time as Myanmar quickly equalized. The Indian team showed much more attacking intent in this match as the last 10 minutes of the match saw plenty of action. India are still winless in seven encounters against Myanmar.
Changes in Rankings
Currently, the Indian women’s football team are ranked 67th in the FIFA rankings, but this ranking was last updated in June so after a loss and draw against Myanmar who are ranked 54th in the World, the Indian team will not see any major changes in the FIFA ranking. Even though they did get a draw against a higher-ranked team still it will not be enough for them to move up in the rankings.
How will these friendlies help the National team?
Just after a month the Indian team played against Uzbekistan they played Myanmar. These friendlies will improve the understanding between the players even though tactically the Blue Tigresses are still not good enough these kinds of matches help the head coach to give young players a chance to show themselves and also to get international match experience. These few matches showed what they are lacking when they play away from home as they need to improve a lot in the upcoming days as a team.
