East Bengal settles for a goalless draw against the Gaurs in ISL.

The ISL match between East Bengal FC and FC Goa ends in a stalemate. Points were shared in Kolkata, after a first-ever goalless draw between the Torchbearers and the Gaurs in the Indian Super League 2025-26 season.

With this draw the Gaurs are provisionally third in the table with eight points from four matches while the Red and Gold brigade are a place below with seven points from four games. The first real chance of the match came at the quarter-hour mark for East Bengal. Naorem Mahesh Singh played a perfectly weighted pass to Bipin Singh on the left wing. The winger delivered a pinpoint cross into the box for Youssef Ezzejjari, who was unmarked, but the striker skied his attempt over the crossbar.

The home side also came close to scoring when Rashid hit the crossbar with a long-range effort. The midfielder’s powerful attempt went through the hands of the goalkeeper before striking the crossbar.

In the end, both teams had to settle for a point each. East Bengal piled on the pressure in added time, but FC Goa held their composure to ensure the match ended in a first ever stalemate between both the sides in ISL.

Oscar Bruzon addressed the media after the Torchbearers played out draw against the Gaurs in this year’s ISL.

Oscar Bruzon have appreciated his attacking force and admitted that defensively they were not up to the mark in the first half.

He stated: “Yes in the first half both the teams were attacking well. We created a lot of chances as well but couldn’t capitalize on those chances. They were constantly punishing us, where our backline lacked a little bit, but both the team were utilizing the ground well and playing end to end football.”

“In the second half both the team went for some precautions and a tactical battle was going on. We were a better team in the second half and created more chances utilizing our midfield. But as you said we were creating a lot of chances in the last few minutes of the game but couldn’t convert them into goals.”

“But I am happy to receive one point against a strong side like FC Goa and we played really well, now focus will be on the Kerala game.” he also added.

The Spaniard is happy with the performance of Anton Sojberg and Miguel.

He explained: “Yes it can happen sometimes. Different coaches will have different plans for Miguel. He will be marked. He was operating from very low in the first half. But in the second half we asked Miguel to go up so that Rashid and Mahesh can help him with the ball. Then Anton came in the second half and was operating from the position where Mahesh was playing. We had to change Mahesh because he was out of training for a long time, yes he was creating those chances by linking with Miguel and Rashid but Anton played really well in the last 15 minutes. He is very young, and was very eager to give his best on the field. Probable with more practice sessions and more game time, he will deliver well.” he added.

Oscar Bruzon’s take on Prabhsukhan Gill’s performance

Bruzon praised both Gill and Hrithik for their brilliant performance in an end-to-end action packed encounter.

He stated: “Yes both the goalkeepers were brilliant throughout the game. But this is because both the team was attacking very well and defenders from both the team were busy as well. So, I am happy with Gill’s performance as he has saved some crucial goal scoring chances created by the opponent team in both the halves.” he added.

Oscar Bruzon reflects on refereeing decisions

The Gaffer explained: “Again I don’t want to comment on all these. The decisions made by the referee again went against us. But I know if I comment on all these it can affect the performance of my team and also the atmosphere inside the dressing room.

“Yes, in the second it was a hand ball, and a clear penalty was not given. But it can happen sometimes. And we have to accept all these and move forward. I have asked my players after the game they told it was hand to ball. But regarding dropping points I am not worried because we can cover up as we will face Kerala and Mohammedan in the next two matches. Last year we were on 5 points after 8-9 matches but this time we got 6 points from the first two match. So, getting 1 point against FC Goa was not bad at all but again I think we were the better team on the field today.

“We are talking about the referee only but yes I am very happy with the hard work that my support staff are doing behind the scene. They are working really well off the field as we have to fight with some unforeseen injuries, so I am happy to get back the service of Mahesh and Rakip. The support staff are doing a fantastic job off the field with all the players which is really motivating for all of us, Thank You.” he finished off with.
