The Punjab FC coach was furious in the post-match press conference

Punjab FC and FC Goa played out a 1-1 draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, a result that will not help either team in their attempt to scale up the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 standings. The home side dominated the first half but a red card to their striker – Nsungusi Effiong shifted the scales.

FC Goa came back into the game in the second half as Dejan Drazic scored to take home one point and retain their unbeaten streak. Punjab’s head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis was quite unhappy with his team’s performance, and this is what he said post the match.

Punjab FC were cruising with a 1-0 lead. However, their goalscorer Nsungusi Effiong had a heated exchange with Pol Moreno after receiving a foul and pushed his head towards the Spaniard, resulting in a red card to the Shers.

Talking about the incident and the result in general, a furious Panagiotis Dilmperis said, “There was no FC Goa in the first half. If we don’t have the red card, we will score two more goals. Do you remember any chances from Goa? Any situations? It was only Punjab, winning the ball, scoring the goal and making the situational cross.”

“Then suddenly we committed suicide. I’m sorry for the emotional tone of my voice but I think it’s, this team needs something all the time. Our approach goes to the water and doesn’t drink because something weird is happening.”

Punjab FC’s coach was not happy with the referee

The Punjab FC head coach was also unhappy with the referee Crystal John and made it quite clear in the post-match press conference. Talking about the red card and other points.

Dilmperis said, “Honestly, I have no idea about the red card. It was something that was happening and I didn’t see Effiong and Pol Moreno. I saw my player’s back.”

“If he did this move according to the rules, it’s a fair red card even if he didn’t hit him. But I will switch the question. Do you think that if something like this happened from the player of Goa, we will have a red card?”

“Also, I still don’t know why we played two extra minutes – four extra minutes in the first half. So, we were supposed to play only two and we played four. In this time, Goa had three throw-ins, two corners and one direct foul. I still don’t know why we play extra time.”

“There was also a situation with Sahil Tavora. Earlier he had to have a card. If he takes the yellow, he has a second card as well. So, in my opinion, I have no opinion because I didn’t see it. But If Effiong did that move, it’s a red card.”

With Pablo injured, Will we see Pramveer Singh?

Punjab FC’s defender Pablo sustained an injury in the game against FC Goa. The Brazilian Centre back has a hamstring injury, and the severity is not known at this time.

However, the PFC coach did concede that this would help him bring some fresh faces into the team.

When asked if Pramveer Singh can now get some game time and why he has not played a single minute this season, The head coach provided an update.

“Aren’t you happy with Pablo? We have two good Centre backs who have been solid, who can we replace? We will see what is going to happen in the future. Pramveer has an abdominal injury and is in recovery period right now, hopefully he will be there in the next games.”

Though Pramveer made 10 appearances in the ISL last season, he is yet to make a single league appearance for Punjab in the 2025-26 ISL season.

Not playing the 18-year-old has baffled a lot of fans as he has proven his worth and is someone who can help the nation in the long term.
