ISL 2025-26: Punjab FC Review

A season of progress, promise, and a glimpse of a bright future for Punjab FC

Punjab FC kicked off the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season, hoping to finish in the upper half of the league standings.

Under the tactical stewardship of Panagiotis Dilmperis, the Shers shed their lower-table tag from the previous season to emerge as a genuine contender for the ISL title.

Punjab FC have showcased their growth in terms of consistency, bagging crucial points, and finding themselves in the title mix.

Despite missing out on ISL glory, the recent season offered enough positives to acknowledge that Punjab FC remain on an upward trajectory.

Dani Ramirez has been the nucleus of Punjab’s overall success. He was the Shers’ primary orchestrator, dictating the tempo of the game with his calmness and experience.

The Spanish midfielder has been indispensable in dead-ball movements, registering four goals and two assists in his 13 ISL appearances. His vision, composure, and ability to transition play under pressure afforded the Shers a creative side in the middle third.

Underperformer of the season

Vinit Rai

Vinit Rai experienced a challenging campaign with Punjab in the recent ISL season. The 28-year-old midfielder clocked only 107 minutes on the field in his five ISL appearances.

Rai struggled to fully integrate into Dilmperis’ setup, with Dani Ramirez and Samir Zeljkovic mostly seen anchoring the game. The midfielder fell down the pecking order, losing his starting spot to youngsters and limiting his impact over the course of the campaign.
