Inter Kashi are coming after holding reigning ISL Champions Mohun Bagan SG to draw

The Indian Super League is inching closer to its business end of the season, and for one last time this season, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi gears up to host home team Sporting Delhi in the Matchweek 12 fixtures against reigning I-League champions Inter Kashi.

Both teams made their debut in this edition of the Indian Super League and have fared well. Home team SC Delhi are winless in their last four games and will be looking forward to ending the season on an optimistic note against Inter Kashi in their final home game of the season.

They have so far won only once at home against the Kerala Blasters, and their home form in the last three games has been concerning after settling for two draws and succumbing to a defeat against Odisha FC in their most recent game at the national capital.

Despite the departure of Antonio Lopez Habas, Inter Kashi managed to hold the reigning ISL Champions Mohun Bagan SG to a goalless draw under interim gaffer Abhijit Mondal. The Varanasi outfit kick-started the season positively and were unbeaten until they faced the Red Miners in the Steel City.

Inter Kashi had a tough season, but despite all the negativities, internal problems and playing every single game as the away team, they managed to pull out a few moments of brilliance and will be hoping to end the season positively against Delhi.

The Stakes

SC Delhi

The team from the national capital are coming after dropping points in their last three home games against Mohammedan SC, Punjab FC and Odisha FC. Their last win came away from home a month ago against the Highlanders in Guwahati when they shocked the reigning Durand Cup Champions by beating them 3-0.

Serbian striker Matija Babovic has been their top scorer after scoring five goals, and many young Indian talents like Aimen, Manoj Mohammed, and Joseph Sunny have been in terrific form.

Their defensive unit has fared relatively well, and they have made the most tackles per game this season. Their defensive discipline is also quite commendable, making them one of the fewest fouling teams. Polish gaffer Tomas Tchorz will be looking forward to ending the season at home with a win.

Inter Kashi

The reigning I-League champions were unbeaten in their first three games of the season, and Antonio Lopez Habas led Inter Kashi to defeat teams like Kerala Blasters FC, Mohammedan SC and Chennaiyin FC, but dropped points in their last few games against Punjab FC and NorthEast United FC.

Head coach Antonio Lopez Habas parted ways, citing internal problems in the franchise and interim coach Abhijit Mondal took over and went on to hold Mohun Bagan SG to a draw. They will play Delhi and East Bengal next, and despite being out of the title race, they have a big role in determining the title winners.

Alfred Planas has been their top scorer, and players like Sergio Llamas and Mohammed Asif Khan really impressed a lot in the last few games.

Team News

SC Delhi have no injury concerns for the next game.

Abhijit Mondal will have the luxury of picking his best eleven from a fully fit side.

Head-to-head

Both sides made their debut in the ISL and will be locking horns with each other for the first time in history. This will be the first of many encounters between these two teams.

Inter Kashi (4-3-3)

The Ghanaian midfielder has unarguably been one of the most standout players for SC Delhi this season. He has previously played for top Swedish teams like Hammarby and GIF Sundsvall before making a move to the Middle East with Jordanian club Al-Wehdat.

He has so far played every single game for Tomas Tchorz’s side and also gave an assist against North East United FC when they won 3-0 in Guwahati.

His partnership with Ousmane Fane in the midfield will be crucial to stop the attacking duo of Petkevicius and Planas, and all eyes will be on Hadu to dominate the midfield and win the game for SC Delhi.

Sergio Llamas (Inter Kashi)

The Spanish midfielder has played for top Spanish clubs like Deportivo Alaves, Rayo Majadahonda and Real Union before making a move to India. His first stint in India was at God’s Own Country after joining Gokulam Kerala in 2024 before making a switch to Inter Kashi.

He has played every single minute for Inter Kashi so far this season and has given one assist and scored once in the 3-2 defeat to the Highlanders.

He will be tasked with the responsibility to create goal-scoring opportunities for Petkevicius and Planas upfront from the centre of the park to extend Kashi’s unbeaten run to two in the national capital.
