Churchill Brothers vs Punjab FC: Key player battles to watch out for in ISL 2026-27 match
Churchill Brothers will host Punjab FC on October 25.
Churchill Brothers defeated Mumbai City 2-1 on their ISL debut, then lost 0-4 to East Bengal.
Punjab FC are unbeaten with four points from two games, after a last-minute winner over Odisha and a late equaliser at home to Mumbai.
One side is trying to repair its defence, while the other is trying to turn dominance into goals. Ahead of this match, take a look at the key player battles that could decide the outcome of this clash.
Messi Bouli vs Gaurav Bora

Bouli’s two goals came in very different ways. The first, after 39 seconds, was the fastest of the season so far, finished from a Muhammed Uvais cross. The 90+5 winner was a left-footed finish after Bishu found him. He took four of Punjab’s 14 attempts against Odisha and created two more. He is a finisher and a link player in one.
Bora is the likely test. He scored Churchill’s first ISL goal, but he is part of a backline which is inexperienced. East Bengal scored inside two minutes, and Bouli’s opener was also seconds old. Two games is a small sample, but both point to the same weakness at the start of matches.
Bishu Sharma vs Dramane Salou
Bishu has not started yet. He came on at 36′ against Mumbai when Rishikanta Meitei was injured, and against Odisha he fired a 35-yard effort at 73′.
His real value is in the final-third pass. If he starts, Churchill’s double pivot has to deal with a player who drifts left and wants to receive between the lines.
Salou is the likely anchor, probably alongside Kingslee Fernandes. Both started against Mumbai in the predicted 4-2-3-1. The risk is the gap between pivot and back four, which is where East Bengal hurt Churchill. If Salou steps up to press Bishu, he leaves space for Planas and Raposo to run into. If he sits, Bishu gets time to turn and pick a pass.
Stendly Fernandes vs Khaimin Lhungdim

Stendly had a decent outing against Mumbai. Punjab’s predicted back four has Uvais and Lhungdim at full-back. Both attack: Uvais was through on goal at 86′ against Odisha, and Lhungdim set up Bishu’s long shot.
That is Churchill’s route in. Punjab’s full-backs push high, so the space behind them is the target.
If Stendly drifts into the half-space, he can drag a centre-back wide and open a run for Lekay or an overlapping full-back.
The risk for Churchill is that they have not yet shown the structure to sustain overloads without leaving rest defence thin. East Bengal punished them at 1-0 after Churchill had shown attacking intent.
