Churchill Brothers vs Punjab FC  Player Ratings: Despite Gutiérrez heroics, the Shers seal the win in ISL 2026-27 game

The Goan side bow down 3-2 to Punjab FC in stoppage time.

Churchill Brothers FC trailed to a Raphael Messi Bouli penalty, levelled through Sebastián Gutiérrez, fell behind again to Alfred Planas before the break, then equalised once more through the same man in the ISL 2026-27 season.

A point looked earned until Konsam Sanathoi Singh struck in the 95th minute, despite Churchill’s handball appeals, to give Punjab FC a 3–2 win. With 21 shots and 11 on target between the sides, neither team settled for a draw.

Here are the player ratings from the match earlier this evening.

Churchill Brothers Player Ratings (By Jeremy)

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

S. Kadir – 6/10

Beaten three times in an end-to-end game, though a penalty and a stoppage-time counter leave little to blame on the keeper. He was busy in a match with 11 shots on target, and the back four in front of him gave him little protection when Punjab broke at pace. Churchill needed one more big moment from him to hold the point.

A. Gaonkar – 5.5/10

Booked, which tells its own story about a night spent chasing Punjab’s quick forwards. The right-back offered width going forward but was stretched whenever Churchill lost the ball high. He was part of a defensive unit that was too open in transition.

G. Bora – 5.5/10

The centre-back pairing was stretched by Punjab’s direct running and could not stay compact. Bora’s positioning was tested constantly, and conceding three at home is a collective failure he shares. He had little cover when the midfield was bypassed.

J. Okoro – 5/10

Withdrawn during the game, and the second-half change suggests the staff wanted fresh legs at the back. Like his partner, he struggled with Punjab’s pace and movement in the first-half spell that cost Churchill two goals. This was a below-par display from a key defender.

M. D. Singh – 6/10

The left-back had a steadier night than most of the back line and supported the attack with some energy on his flank. He wasn’t immune to the transition problems, but he committed fewer visible errors. A mild positive in a poor defensive showing.

D. Salou – 6/10

Tasked with shielding the back four alongside A. W, Salou saw Punjab’s front line find too much space between the lines. He worked hard, but the pair was overrun when the game turned into a track meet. He was better in possession than in recovery.

Angousana – 6/10

A similar story in the double pivot: willing, but too often caught between pressing and screening. Churchill’s structure loosened as the game opened up, and the midfield base could not stop the counters. He did help Churchill keep the ball when they chased the game.

V. Barretto – 7/10

Set up Gutiérrez’s 13th-minute equaliser, the goal that kept Churchill believing after Messi Bouli’s penalty. He gave the attack creativity and drive from the left before being substituted. One of the few Churchill players whose contribution was clearly positive.

S. Gutiérrez – 8.5/10

Churchill Brothers vs Punjab FC  Player Ratings: Despite Gutiérrez heroics, the Shers seal the win in ISL 2026-27 game
Gutiérrez scored a brace against Punjab FC in the first half.

The standout. His movement inside the box was intelligent, he finished clinically to drag Churchill level twice, and he kept running when the game was stretched. Two goals from a number 10 deserved more than a defeat.

T. S. Dias – 5.5/10

Booked and later withdrawn, he never quite imposed himself on the right of the attacking trio. The yellow card limited how aggressively he could press. A quiet night in a game that demanded more.

W. Lekay – 6/10

Churchill Brothers vs Punjab FC  Player Ratings: Despite Gutiérrez heroics, the Shers seal the win in ISL 2026-27 game
Lekay played as a decoy for Gutiérrez to shine, in Red Machines in game today.

Led the line alone in a 4-2-3-1 and was kept involved by the creative players behind him. He did the unglamorous work of occupying defenders while Gutiérrez found the space to score. A blank on the scoresheet, but a useful focal point.

Substitutions

Melroy Assisi – 6/10

Introduced early in the second half, Assisi was the first of three changes Churchill made in a 15-minute window as they chased the game from 2-1 down. The switch came as Punjab were already dangerous on the break, and the back line stayed vulnerable to pace and direct running after he arrived.

He gave Churchill fresh legs and a steadying presence, but he couldn’t close the transition gaps that Punjab exploited again in stoppage time.

J. Okoli – 6/10

Introduced early in the second half to freshen things up as Churchill pushed for an equaliser. He helped the side stay competitive, though the changes didn’t tighten the transition problems. A steady cameo.

S. Fernandes – 6/10

Added fresh legs as Churchill chased the game, and the side kept creating chances. His arrival did not fix the defensive looseness that eventually cost them. A neutral but serviceable impact.

Punjab FC Player Ratings (By Saikat)

Arshdeep Singh – 6.5/10

Arshdeep had a decent outing between the posts, making two saves despite conceding twice. While conceding two goals would be disappointing with two saves to his name, he made useful contributions in goal, even though Punjab FC ultimately secured a positive result.

Khaiminthang Lhungdim – 6.5/10

Lhungdim put in a solid defensive shift. He contributed with interceptions and recoveries, helping disrupt the opposition’s attacking moves and regain possession. He also attempted to make an impact at the other end, registering a shot that went off target.

Bijoy Varghese – 7/10

Bijoy delivered a strong defensive performance for Punjab FC. He made important clearances to deal with the opposition’s attacking threats and was effective with his interceptions, helping break Churchill Brothers’ build-up play. His defensive awareness and ability to read the game allowed him to intervene at crucial moments and regain possession for his side.

Nikhil Prabhu – 6.5/10

The Punjab FC captain put in a solid defensive performance, showing good defensive awareness throughout the game. He also looked to make an impact going forward, registering a shot on target and demonstrating his willingness to contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Muhammad Uvais – 6/10

Uvais had a mixed outing defensively for Punjab FC. He contributed defensively, showing his ability to help deal with the opposition’s attacking threats. However, he also had repeated losses of possession, which caused problems for Punjab FC in their attempts to build play and maintain control of the ball.

Ricky Shabong – 7/10

Ricky contributed effectively in both defence and attack. He was strong in his defensive duties, making important tackles and clearances that helped Punjab regain possession and relieve pressure. Shabong was equally valuable during transitions, with his long balls proving particularly effective in moving the team forward quickly and connecting defence with attack.

Bishu Sharma – 6.5/10

Although he was not quite at the level he had reached in the previous game, Bishu had a good performance. His pace was a major asset, allowing him to carry the ball forward and trouble the opposition with some impressive dribbles. He also registered a shot that went off target.

Manglenthang Kipgen – 7/10

Kipgen was a lively presence on the wings for Punjab FC. He consistently looked to take on defenders and create opportunities in the final third, registering two shots on target. Although he was substituted in the 63rd minute, his contribution on the flanks helped Punjab maintain an attacking threat during his time on the pitch.

Alfred Planas Moya – 8/10

Churchill Brothers vs Punjab FC  Player Ratings: Despite Gutiérrez heroics, the Shers seal the win in ISL 2026-27 game
Planas Moya scored the second goal for the Shers today.

Planas delivered an impressive attacking performance for Punjab FC, scoring one goal and consistently threatening the opposition defence. He recorded two shots on target and created two chances, highlighting his ability to contribute both as a finisher and as a creator.

Although he also had one shot off target, his overall attacking output was effective. Planas was undoubtedly one of Punjab’s standout performers.

Muhammad Suhail – 6/10

Suhail had a difficult game, playing for only around 45 minutes before being substituted at half-time. While he showed good pace and the ability to move forward quickly, he struggled to translate that into a meaningful attacking contribution in the final third.

Raphael Messi Bouli – 8.5/10

Churchill Brothers vs Punjab FC  Player Ratings: Despite Gutiérrez heroics, the Shers seal the win in ISL 2026-27 game
Messi Bouli scored the first goal in Punjab’s game against Churchill Brothers.

Messi Bouli delivered the standout performance of the night for Punjab FC. He converted a penalty to open the scoring and continued to trouble the opposition with his attacking threat. The forward created three chances, registered two shots on target and provided an assist, proving his importance in both finishing and creating opportunities.

Substitutions

Koncham Santhoi Singh – 7/10

Churchill Brothers vs Punjab FC  Player Ratings: Despite Gutiérrez heroics, the Shers seal the win in ISL 2026-27 game
Punjab FC secure late win as Santhoi scored in the 6th minute of stoppage time.

Santhoi made a positive impact after coming on, scoring a goal and registering two shots on target. He showed intent in the attacking third and made the most of his opportunities in front of goal. Although he received a yellow card, his goal and attacking contribution made him one of Punjab FC’s more effective substitutes.

Arshvir Singh – 6/10

Arshvir showed promise with his passing and dribbling after coming off the bench. He moved the ball well and looked comfortable carrying possession, helping Punjab FC maintain their attacking rhythm. His ability to combine with teammates and progress the ball was a positive aspect of his cameo.

Vishal Yadav – 6.5/10

Vishal brought energy and pace to Punjab FC’s attack, creating a chance and competing well in duels. His ability to move quickly into attacking areas helped stretch the opposition and offered the team another option going forward. He made a useful contribution during his time on the pitch.

Gurkirat Singh – N/A

Gurkirat had limited minutes on the pitch, leaving little time to make a significant impact on the game.

Karish Soram – N/A

Soram also had limited playing time, making it difficult to assess his overall contribution meaningfully.
