East Bengal vs Churchill Brothers Player Ratings: Dani Ramirez & Bipin Singh shines in ISL 2026-27 clash

Bipin Singh’s late brace sealed an away win for the defending champions.

In their opening match of their 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) season, East Bengal FC took the lead in the second minute and never let go against Churchill Brothers.

Dani Ramírez was fouled by Dramane Salou, then curled the resulting free-kick into the top-left corner to get the lead. Churchill Brothers had their moments to recover and comeback, but the Red & Gold Brigade controlled the 48th meeting between the clubs across competitions.

Edmund Lalrindika doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time, finishing from the centre of the box after David Lalhlansanga’s assist. The back line, with Prabhsukhan Gill behind it, was troubled, especially in the first half, but kept it solid and bagged a clean sheet.

The half-time introduction of Bipin Singh for Rohit Danu paid off late rather than immediately. He scored a curling effort from outside the box in the 85th minute and a close-range finish in the 90th, assisted by PV Vishnu, to turn a controlled win into a rout.

Churchill Brothers Player Ratings (By Saikat)

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

Sayad Kadir – 5/10

Kadir could not have done much to stop that direct free kick from Ramirez that led to the first goal. In the second goal, he had a fingertip to Edmund’s shot but couldn’t deny the thunderous strike.

Anil Gaonkar – 6/10

Gaonkar was a silver lining in a dark cloud for Churchill Brothers. He also picked up a yellow card tonight and it was never easy getting the better of Edmund and Ramirez on the left flank.

Melroy Assisi – 5.5/10

Assisi was also marking David, who gave an assist to the second goal but couldn’t get the better of him as Edmund made it 0-2 before the first half.

He had a terrible outing tonight and made too many defensive errors and was subbed off.

John Okoli – 6/10

The Nigerian striker missed a big chance tonight after hitting the wood work.

Okoli had an off game tonight upfront and couldn’t make the most of the opportunity tonight as Churchill failed to score any.

Gaurav Bora – 5/10

Bora, the first ISL goalscorer of Churchill Brothers failed to mark and deny David from giving that dangerous cross to Edmund, who doubled the lead for East Bengal.

Luwang – 7/10

Luwang was one of the best players tonight for Churchill Brothers. He made four defensive contributions tonight and his passing accuracy was also quite high.

Dramane Salou – 6.5/10

Salou gave away a dangerous free kick after a soft foul on Ramirez, who converted it into a goal after a brilliant direct free kick.

Vincy Barretto – 6.5/10

Unlike the last game, where Barretto made those accelerated and overlapping runs from the flanks, he had a poor game tonight and Jay Gupta got the better of the former Jamshedpur FC winger.

Deny Singh – 5/10

East Bengal FC vs Churchill Brothers SC Player Ratings: Dani started early and Bipin kills it late
Deny Singh had a mediocre day out, defending against the likes of Rohit Danu & David Lalhlansanga.

Deny was tasked with the responsibility of neutralising Danu and David from the flanks. In the second goal, he could have done better to mark Edmund well.

Wayde Lekay – 6.5/10

The South African striker was playing as a left winger tonight. He did create a few big chances tonight and he had two shots.

Both of them were off target and were blocked as Churchill succumbed to a big defeat.

Sebastian Gutierrez – 6/10

The Colombian striker had an expected goal ratio of 0.12 and expected assist ratio of 0.25. He couldn’t make the most of the opportunities as Churchill Brothers lost the game 0-4 against East Bengal.

Substitutes

Alexandre Yeoule – 6.5/10

The Ivorian was subbed on in the 46th minute. He had a decent game in the midfield. When Bipin took that curling shot to score the third goal, he failed to mark him well.

Stendly Fernandes – 6.5/10

The midfielder played 45 minutes and did a good job in the midfield tonight alongside Yeoule.

He had 24 touches and had two defensive contributions in the game.

Kingslee Fernandes – 6/10

Kingslee played for nearly half an hour and couldn’t create many chances for a possible comeback against East Bengal.

Trijoy Dias – 6/10

Trijoy was brought in late and couldn’t get much time to make an impact tonight.

Phijam Sanathoi – 6/10

Sanathoi was also brought late in the last few minutes and didn’t have much time to make an impact tonight.

East Bengal Player Ratings (By Jeremy)

Prabhsukhan Gill – 7/10

Gill had a quiet night but handled it cleanly. He made comfortable saves against Angousana Luwang and Gaurav Bora and kept his area calm.

The clean sheet owes more to the defensive structure in front of him than to his heroics, and the rating reflects that.

Anwar Ali – 7.5/10

Anwar organised the back line and gave Churchill little to work with.

He also contributed going forward with a bold 35-yard effort in the first half. His positioning kept the defence compact throughout.

Jeakson Singh – 7.5/10

Disrupted Churchill’s transitions and gave East Bengal control of the middle.

He set up Anwar’s long shot and tried his own effort from range. The work was mostly unglamorous screening, which is what the game needed.

Mohammed Rashid – 7/10

Rashid was decent in midfield for East Bengal.

Rashid showed good range and progressive passing, including the ball that set up Edmund’s opener.

He also tried a long-range effort. A late yellow card in stoppage time was a minor blemish on an otherwise composed display.

Dani Ramírez – 8/10

East Bengal vs Churchill Brothers Player Ratings: Dani Ramirez & Bipin Singh shines in ISL 2026-27 clash
Dani Ramirez scored the first goal for East Bengal in ISL 2026-27.

Ramirez won the free-kick and scored from it within two minutes, which set the tone for the match.

He later created a chance for Bipin and was substituted at 77′ once the result was safe. He faded after the early impact, but the game state meant he didn’t need to do more.

Rohit Danu – 6.5/10

Drew early fouls, including a yellow card for Maibam Singh, and kept Churchill’s defence under pressure. He was replaced at half-time and didn’t produce a final product of his own. Useful, but not decisive.

Edmund Lalrindika – 8.0/10

East Bengal FC vs Churchill Brothers SC Player Ratings: Dani started early and Bipin kills it late
Edmund Gave the Torchbearers a comfortable 0-2 lead going into the second half.

A constant threat down the channels who drew fouls, including a booking for Gaonkar. Edmund took his goal with composure at 45′ and tested Kadir again in the 55th minute.

He left the pitch with a knock in the 87th minute, so his fitness will be one to watch.

David Lalhlansanga – 7.0/10

His pressing and movement were relentless. He missed early chances and was denied by a Kadir save from a header, but his assist for Edmund’s goal justified his selection. He was subbed off at 70′.

Substitutes

Bipin Singh – 9.0/10

He was a threat from the moment he came on, struck an 85th-minute curler from outside the box into the top-left corner, and added a sharp right-footed finish from the six-yard box in the 90th.

Two goals in 45 minutes mark him as the standout.

PV Vishnu – 7.5/10

Brought energy and took several testing shots inside the box.

His unselfish assist for Bipin’s second goal was the right decision. He leaves with an assist, but would have wanted a goal for his own efforts.

Rohit Kumar – 6.5/10

Came on to stabilise central midfield and help see out the clean sheet. He did exactly that without drawing attention, which is the job on this occasion.

Aké Loba – 6/10

Introduced late after Edmund’s knock. There was too little time to judge and make a meaningful assessment.
