FC Goa 1-2 Bengaluru FC: Key Takeaways from ISL 2026-27 match

The Blues score in stoppage time to clinch a 1-2 victory away from home.

Bengaluru FC beat FC Goa 2-1 at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 clash on 6th November 2026. The winner came after the 90+3rd minute of the game.

Borja Martínez put the visitors ahead in the 12th with a left-footed drive from outside the box, and Franchu levelled four minutes later from distance. Then 70-odd minutes of scrappy end-to-end football went nowhere until substitute Soham Varshneya finished a pass from fellow substitute Ashique Kuruniyan.

Their win lifts Bengaluru to 10 points from four games, while Goa stay on five and have now wasted a home game against a title rival. In this article, we will discuss four key takeaways from the ISL clash between Bengaluru FC & FC Goa on 6th November.

Bengaluru dictated the first quarter-hour

Bengaluru FC made 4 attempts at the FC Goa goal within 11 minutes of the start.

Bengaluru FC fired the first four attempts of the night. Ricky Meetei had a shot at 2′. Manuel de Iriondo fired wide at 6′. Martínez forced a save at 8′, and Ryan Williams got a shot in at 9′ that Bob Jackson also saved. Goa’s first real look came at 11′, when Francisco Feuillassier dragged a right-footed effort wide of the post.

Bengaluru’s goal a minute later was the product of a spell in which they had the ball high and Goa had no answer to it. The finish, left foot into the bottom-right corner, was the least surprising thing about it.

Goa’s goal was a punt that came off

Franchu’s goal was the Gaurs’ only attempt at the Bengaluru FC goal in the first half.

Franchu’s 17′ equaliser, a right-footed drive from outside the box into the bottom-left corner, was good. It was also the only time Goa’s attacking combinations produced a shot that mattered. Everything else was Nemil’s save-forcing effort at 48′, a blocked Ortíz strike at 86′, and a lot of sideways passing in the final third.

For a home side that wanted to put a pace-setter in its place, five points from four games tells the story. Gouramangi Singh needs a plan that involves an attacking prowess that will serve as a menace for opponent defence.

The Blues bench won the game for them

Ashique Kuruniyan came on in the second half and set up Ryan Williams at 90+1′, forcing Jackson into a save, then laid on the winner for Soham Varshneya moments later. Varshneya had himself replaced Suresh Singh Wangjam before the break, and his left-footed finish from the centre of the box into the bottom-left corner was the cleanest piece of finishing in 90 minutes of mess.

Two substitutes decided a game that the starters couldn’t. That’s depth, and it’s why Bengaluru sit on 10 points while others chase them. Meanwhile Goa’s changes added a blocked shot and a yellow card.

Not a memorable night for Chhetri

Sunil Chhetri’s first start of the season came without the usual noise. Sunil was unable to produce even a single shot, chance or assist, due to which, Pep Muñoz took him off to bring Perovic alongside Borja Martínez in a double change.

The goals came from Borja shooting from distance and a substitute Soham running onto a Ashique Kuruniyan supplied pass. At 41, you can’t expect 90 minutes of pressing and the penalty-box poaching to coexist, and Muñoz clearly knows it.
