Inter Kashi 1-2 FC Goa: Key takeaways from ISL 2026-27 match

The Gaurs registered their first win of the 2026-27 ISL season.

Inter Kashi FC were gearing up for their fourth consecutive home game of the 2026-27 ISL season as they welcomed a winless FC Goa to the Balewadi Stadium in Pune. While the match was not completely dominated by either side, the Gaurs did just enough to secure a 1-2 win against a spirited home side that gave it their all.

Gouramangi Singh made two changes to the side that settled for a 1-1 draw against SC Delhi in their previous game, with Akash Singh and Isak Vanlalruatfela replacing Nemil and Malsawmsanga.

Udanta Singh also moved up from the right-back position to right-wing. Carlos Vaz Pinto, the hosts’ head coach, made two changes as well, with Aritra Das coming in at left-back in place of Sajad Parray, while Thoi Singh replaced Hitesh Sharma in attack.

FC Goa started the game brightly, with Isak making several good runs into space down the left flank. In the 35th minute, one such run allowed him to set up Franchu perfectly near the edge of the box. The Argentine placed his shot to perfection to give the Gaurs the lead going into the half-time break.

Inter Kashi came back with renewed energy and found an equaliser through Passi’s strike. He got ahead of Sitroy to convert Rosenberg Gabriel’s cross from close range.

While Inter Kashi might have thought they could hold on for a draw, Goa’s in-form striker Chiki delivered yet again to give the Gaurs the lead and all three points in Pune.

Here are our key takeaways from the game.

Much-needed three points for FC Goa, but plenty of room for improvement

FC Goa registered a 1-2 win over Inter Kashi.

FC Goa, who were winless in their opening two ISL games despite not losing either of them, were in dire need of a victory to get their campaign going, pick up points and move up the ISL table.

In fact, more than the team, head coach Gouramangi Singh needed this win more than anyone else, having managed just one victory in his first six games.

While goals from Franchu and Chiki earned them all three points, the performance was far from impressive against an Inter Kashi side playing with an all-Indian squad and very low on confidence.

Defensive concerns, especially when dealing with crosses from wide areas, were clearly evident once again, while the overall pressing structure remains far from convincing.

Although the goals came from foreign players, Gouramangi Singh would be delighted to see Indian wingers Isak and Nemil stepping up with assists.

Inter Kashi defensively compact but losing out in key moments

Inter Kashi 1-2 FC Goa: Key Takeaways from ISL 2026-27 match
Inter Kashi are yet to win a match in ISL 2026-27.

As for Inter Kashi, their approach this season has been pretty much the same in every game, barring the heavy defeat they suffered against East Bengal FC.

They look defensively solid and composed for major parts of the game and also tried to play with the ball at their feet. However, they failed to make the most of key moments, which ultimately end up deciding the outcome of games.

This has been their main concern defensively. Despite putting in several good efforts, they tend to lose concentration at certain moments, allowing the opposition to capitalize and score. It is understandable that the defenders find themselves in such situations, as they are more often than not forced to spend long periods in their own half, defending under pressure.

Although they scored once, the same issue was evident in attack as well.

They managed to get into good goalscoring positions, whether through the wide areas or the center, but unfortunately lacked the quality to make the most of those opportunities.

Midfield, the bright spot in the Gaurs’ setup

While the defenders have been conceding cheap goals and have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of the games played under Gouramangi Singh, seven games without a single clean sheet, there is plenty of room for improvement at the back.

In attack, all their goals have come from foreign players, with Chiki, Franchu and Ortiz being their goalscorers this season. There also seems to be considerable room for improvement in the way they create chances and make movements in the final third to find spaces.

However, the midfield has been their biggest strength. Prachit was very impressive before his injury, while Tomba has also stepped up in recent games. Vallejo has been consistent with his ability to control the tempo of the game and distribute the ball, while Franchu continues to do what he does best in the final third with his creativity.

All three recorded passing accuracy of around 90% with Tomba completing 66/71 attempted passes. Franchu created five key chances, while Tomba and Vallejo recorded 17 recoveries in the middle of the park and won most of the duels they contested.

Gouramangi Singh must stop experimenting at right-back

Ever since the start of the season, one thing that has consistently changed in FC Goa’s defensive line, irrespective of injuries, is the personnel at right-back.

Akash Singh has played there, Udanta Singh has played there, and Sitroy has also featured in the position. While Akash and Sitroy have looked shaky, Udanta, who has played at right-back regularly since Manolo’s reign, remains the most solid option.

Despite that, Gouramangi Singh made a mess of the right-back situation yet again against Inter Kashi. Akash Singh started at right-back, Udanta switched from right-wing to right-back around the 30th minute, and Sitroy was brought on at half-time.

This contributed to the goal they conceded, as Udanta, playing at left-back, was unable to stop the cross, while Sitroy was poorly positioned at right-back.

Udanta must be locked in as the first choice right-back, or Ronney must be given a start there, with a talented left-back like Saveme Tariang starting on the other side.

Carlos Vaz Pinto is trying, but cannot do much more without new signings

Carlos Vaz Pinto has done decent with a below par Inter Kashi side so far.

As far as Inter Kashi FC are concerned, one cannot help but feel for the situation they find themselves in. They have a below-par Indian squad and no foreign players.

The same squad under an Indian head coach would probably have struggled even more, and Carlos Vaz Pinto is doing his best with the resources available to him.

From their opening-day defeat against Kerala Blasters FC, where they competed well and went toe-to-toe with the Blasters, to the draw against Odisha FC and their goal against FC Goa, they have been trying their best with the limited resources at their disposal with the game against East Bengal being an exception.

However, it is clearly evident that they are missing a touch of quality, something extra special that experienced Indian players and foreign recruits bring to other ISL teams.

If they had someone in midfield who could properly calm things down and create chances in the final third, along with a proper foreign striker capable of competing both physically and technically against foreign center-backs, they would surely start picking up more points than they currently are.

Who scored the goal for Inter Kashi against FC Goa in the 2026-27 ISL clash?

Sumeet Passi scored the only goal for Inter Kashi in their 1-2 defeat to FC Goa.

Which player scored the winning goal in the Inter Kashi FC vs FC Goa game?

Spanish striker Chiki scored the winner for the Gaurs in their 1-2 victory over Inter Kashi.
