How Jamshedpur FC should approach the ISL summer transfer window

Red Miners will kickstart Durand Cup campaign in Ranchi
From finishing mid-table to being one of the strong contenders to win the ISL, Jamshedpur FC have fared really well in the last two seasons. After a series of managerial changes, the Red Miners acquired the services of Khalid Jamil, who brought instant success.
The Red Miners went on to play their first-ever finals in any major competition after Khalid’s Jamshedpur got the better of Mumbai City FC to reach the Super Cup Finals. They were just one win away from representing India continentally, but a 3-0 defeat from FC Goa in the finals crushed their hopes.
Just when Jamshedpur were building their momentum slowly, Khalid Jamil departed the Steel City after being appointed as the head coach of the senior men’s national team. Under Steven Dias, the team performed terribly after failing to advance past the quarterfinals in the Durand Cup and the group stages in Super Cup.
The Tata-led franchise wasted no time in bringing back former Burnley and Houston Dynamo gaffer Owen Coyle, who won the ISL Shield with the Red Miners in the 2021-22 season. Now however Jamshedpur FC have announced that Kaizad Ambapardiwala will lead them in the Durand Cup 2026.
A recap of ISL 2025-26 season

Jamshedpur FC were off to a brilliant start. Time and again, Coyle repeatedly emphasised it was never easy to inherit a squad, a few weeks before the new season, where he had no say in determining the list of players.
Despite all the challenges, Jamshedpur FC had a brilliant start, winning all of their first few games. But a mid season lump saw them getting derailed but the Red Miners were still in contention to win the ISL title till the final matchweek, but fell short of a few points and finished fifth.
Despite finishing fifth, Jamshedpur FC were one of the very few teams to defeat eventual ISL champions East Bengal FC at the VYBK Kolkata. They scored 15 goals, won six out of 13 games and accumulated 22 points throughout the season.
Now let us take a closer look at all the work they have do in the transfer window
Kaizad Ambapardiwala to lead JFC in Durand Cup 2026

Kaizad Ambapardiwalla will lead the Men of Steel during the club’s 2026 Durand Cup campaign. He managed Jamshedpur FC’s youth development setup from very early and is now set to coach Jamshedpur FC in Durand Cup.
Under his guidance, the JFC youth teams have consistently impressed with their performances while nurturing young players capable of making the step up to senior football. Along with Defenders FC of Sri Lanka, Sporting Club Delhi, and the Indian Air Force Football Team, the Men of Steel will look to secure a good group stage under the new coach.
Will Jamshedpur extend Albino Gomes’ contract?

The Goan keeper Albino Gomes impressed massively for Jamshedpur FC in the last two seasons. The goalkeeping market in the Indian transfer market is notoriously rigid, and big teams hardly let go off their best keepers.
Albino Gomes’ contract expires in May 2026, and there is a high chance that Jamshedpur FC might try to renew his contract, given the lack of good options. Moreover, local lad Amrit Gope, who still has a year left on his contract, is a pretty decent choice for a second-choice keeper, and JFC can let go of Ravi Kumar.

Who should pair up with Eze to safeguard JFC defence?

Well, Jamshedpur did well defensively last season, and the main credit goes to their best player, Stephen Eze. The Nigerian has a year running in his contract. Alongside Eze, it was either Lazar Cirkovic or Pratik Chaudhari pairing up, but should that change for JFC?
Yes, it is true, both Pratik and Lazar impressed a lot when Eze was suspended, but there are better options. The Serbian centre back Lazar and Sarthak Golui might be leaving. Pratik is a brilliant Indian option, but he is growing old. JFC must consider extending his contract for his experience and also retain Mark and Nikhil Barla already has a long term contract.
JFC need a good centre back, and they can target Narender Gahlot, who played a couple of matches for Inter Kashi. He has also played for JFC previously and can be a brilliant pick on a budget. Apart from that, Naocha and Hormipam are good options, but they have contracts till 2027 at Blasters.
Should JFC extend Madih Talal’s contract?

Jamshedpur are looking at the possibility of retaining Madih Talal, the French talisman, alongside Japanese Samurai Rei Tachikawa. Nikola Stojanovic has departed the club, and it was important to vacate a foreign player quota. Apart from that, veteran Pronay, Sourav Das and Puia are already contracted.
Retaining Madih Talal should be a top priority. Players like Mobashir and Germanpreet are expected to leave. Which players should JFC sign next ? They need a creative foreign midfielder as there are still uncertainty over Talal’s fitness concerns.
Hitesh Sharma is a brilliant Indian option JFC can target. The Odisha FC lad is now a free agent. Apart from that, Givson Singh, who still has a contract with Gokulam Kerala, can be a pretty solid option too.
Jamshedpur need a really good striker who can score goals

Cameroonian striker Messi Bouli was a big disappointment last season. They should let him go and look for a proper striker. Maybe if Madih is fit, they can go ahead with just Rei and Talal in the midfield and get a foreign striking duo like Siverio and Murray.
Domestic offensive options like Sanan, Sreekuttan and Rosenburg Gabriel are already contracted. Vincy Baretto can be offered a contract extension too.
They need a reliable foreign striker who can go all guns blazing and score a lot of goals. Maybe they can try bringing some young forwards from the A-League.
