Kerala Blasters have completed the signing of former Aston Villa winger Andre Green ahead of the ISL 2026-27 season.
The 28-year-old arrives as a free agent after his contract with Portuguese top-flight side AVS ended in July, becoming the first foreign signing of the Al Fursan era.
The Blasters began pre-season earlier today, with head coach Ashley Westwood playing a central role in identifying the club’s overseas targets. Westwood has drawn up his own shortlist of foreign players he wants the club to pursue.
Green can operate on either wing, though he prefers the left, and he can also fill the secondary striker role Westwood sometimes uses in his 4-4-2.
As Khel Now revealed earlier, Kerala Blasters are also set to sign Mohammed Sanan, Amrinder Singh, Sahil Tavora, Ramhlunchhunga and Mohammed Yasir and to extend the contract of Aiban Dohling.
Aston Villa academy to the Premier League at 17
Green came through the Aston Villa academy, where he spent a decade from 2006 to 2016.
He made his Premier League debut on March 13, 2016, aged 17, coming off the bench for Jordan Veretout in a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. He made two Premier League appearances in all, and 40 for Villa across competitions, scoring twice, including 21 Championship appearances in 2018-19.
He then went on loan to Portsmouth, where he made six appearances and scored once; Preston North End, where he played four times; and Charlton Athletic, where he made 13 Championship appearances and scored twice in 2019-20.
Green then joined Sheffield Wednesday, making 11 Championship appearances in 2020-21 and two more in League One the following season.
Two league titles and 19 European appearances in Slovakia
The move abroad brought the most productive period of his career.
Green signed for Slovan Bratislava in 2021 and stayed two seasons. He made 51 league appearances and scored 11 goals, and Slovan won the Slovak title in both campaigns.
He was sharper still in the cups and in Europe. Green scored eight goals in 11 Slovak Cup appearances, and his European record stands at 19 appearances and seven goals.
Eleven of those came in the Conference League, where he scored four, with two more in its qualifying rounds. He also scored three goals in three Europa League qualifiers and played three times in UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
He returned to England with Rotherham United in 2023, making nine Championship appearances in 2023-24 before a more productive League One campaign in 2024-25, with three goals and four assists in 13 games.

A barren year in Greece and Portugal
The 2025-26 campaign took Green to two more countries.
He made 11 league appearances for Panserraikos in Greece, starting nine and playing 663 minutes, before moving to AVS in Portugal in February 2026, where he added five Primeira Liga appearances and 195 minutes.
Across the two clubs, he finished the league season with 16 appearances, 858 minutes and one assist, without scoring. He arrives in Kerala looking to rediscover the form he found in Bratislava.
In all, Green has made 187 league appearances in his career, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists.
England through the age groups
Green represented England at five youth levels. He played four times for the U16s, three times for the U17s, four times for the U18s and three times for the U19s, before making two appearances for the U20 side.
More foreign arrivals expected
Green is the first of the overseas group. Khel Now understands Kerala Blasters remain in talks with three more foreign players and expect to complete those signings.
The Blasters begin their ISL 2026-27 campaign away to Inter Kashi on October 11, with their first home game at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi against Mumbai City FC on October 25.
