Punjab FC have made another major move in the summer transfer window as they officially announce the signing of 27-year-old centre-back Nishchal Chandan on a two-year-deal keeping him at the club until 2028.
Nishchal Chandan becomes the fourth recruitment for the Shers as they gear up for the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 season. Punjab FC are eyeing a major a rebuild after the departure of multiple key players from the club including their former head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis who has moved to Kolkata to join Mohun Bagan SG.
A well-earned move
At the age of 27, Nishchal Chandan has seen his fair share of struggles in Indian football. A product of Minerva Academy, Nishchal has made appearances across almost all divisions of club football like the I-League, I-League 2, ISL etc.
Nishchal Chandan has played for various Indian clubs like Techtro Swades United, Delhi FC, Sudeva Delhi senior and second team, Hyderya Sports, Jamshedpur FC II, Churchill Brothers and Inter Kashi FC.
After making his name for Inter Kashi FC in ISL 2025-26, the player caught multiple eyeballs among the Indian football fraternity. Nishchal made 9 appearances in the Indian Super League last season clocking a total of 702 minutes.
Currently regarded as one of the players to watch out in India, Nishchal Chandan has made more than 50 appearances in I-League along with multiple more in I-League 2 and Durand Cup.
Known for his strong presence at the back and calmness on the ball, Nishchal becomes a crucial replacement of Pramveer Singh who joined NorthEast United FC from Punjab FC.

Punjab FC have been heavily involved in the summer transfer window so far. Whether that includes arrivals, departures or contract extensions.
The Shers let go of Panagiotis Dilmperis after the head coach decided to move to Kolkata and join Mohun Bagan SG. Following him, Samir Zeljkovic also left Punjab FC to join Mohun Bagan SG.
Along with this multiple other major departures include, Pramveer Singh, Bede Osuji, Dani Ramirez, Nsungusi Effiong and Ranjeet Pandre.
However as of now, the Shers have managed to sign forward Alfred Planas Moya from Inter Kashi FC and also acquired the services of Mohammad Inam from Real Kashmir. Along with this Indian forward Gurkirat Singh has also joined the Shers following his exit from Chennaiyin FC ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Punjab FC have also replaced Panagiotis Dilmperis with another Greek head coach, Pavlos Dermitzakis who takes charge at the club ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Their recent recruitment is Nishchal Chandan, who joins them on a two-year contract and is expected to be a key part of the squad in the 2026-27 season.
Arshdeep Singh, Nikhil Prabhu and Lhungdim extended their contracts with the Shers which will keep them at the club for a couple of seasons.
