Ryan Williams played a crucial role for the Blues in ISL 2023-24.
Australian attacker Ryan Williams appears set to stay with Bengaluru FC, as our sources are suggesting a contract extension is on the horizon. This news comes after a decent debut season for Williams in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24.
Bengaluru FC had a poor season in ISL 2023-24 considering their hefty standards are looking to strengthen their squad to mark their comeback in the next season. Ryan Williams played a crucial part of the squad in their upfront.
A source informed Khel Now this morning, “Ryan Williams’ performance has made the Bengaluru FC management happy. They wanted to renew his contract and the player has agreed a two-year extension with the club. With players like Jorge Pereyra Diaz joining the side, Williams’ contributions this season will only help the club in securing more goals up front.”
Before joining Bengaluru FC in July 2023, Ryan Williams had already carved out a well-traveled career path. The 29-year-old began his professional journey in England, playing for clubs like Fulham, Barnsley, and Portsmouth. He also gained experience in the A-League with Perth Glory, where he scored four goals in his final season.
Bengaluru FC brought Williams in with the hope of bolstering their attacking options, and he didn’t disappoint to a certain extent. His versatility across the frontline proved to be a valuable asset for the team. Williams scored three goals and created 21 chances in 16 appearances for the Blues.
His experience playing in different leagues likely helped him adapt to the ISL’s style of play. Furthermore, his leadership qualities, honed through his career in various clubs, would have undoubtedly benefitted the younger players in the squad.
Bengaluru FC’s preparations
The Blues are not resting on their laurels. They have actively strengthened their squad in the transfer window, addressing their shortcomings from the previous season. Up front, Bengaluru have secured the signings of Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Alberto Noguera, both instrumental in Mumbai City’s ISL triumph last season.
The addition of these two prolific attackers alongside Williams signifies Bengaluru’s intent to challenge for the championship in the upcoming season. The combination of Williams, Diaz, and Noguera has the potential to be one of the most dangerous attacking trios in the league.
With a strong core and a potent attack, Bengaluru FC is shaping up to be a serious contender for the ISL title. They are implementing defensive solidity as well. After signing Chinglensana Singh in January, the club has now brought back Rahul Bheke into the squad. Moreover, a solid backup to goalie Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was in demand and the management has answered that query by signing Lalthuammawia Ralte, as reported by Khel Now earlier.
