ISL: Bipin Singh joins East Bengal from Mumbai City FC on free transfer

Bipin Singh was the longest-serving player in Mumbai City’s history

Indian football’s summer transfer window is set to open on June 12, 2025, and clubs will have until August 31, 2025, to bolster their squads. Several Indian Super League (ISL) sides have already sprung into action, initiating key changes as they prepare for the new season.

Among them, Mumbai City FC appear to be gearing up for a significant rebuild following a disappointing 2024-25 campaign. The Islanders have released a host of players, including Nikolaos Karelis, Yoëll van Nieff, Jérémy Manzorro, Jayesh Rane, and Amey Ranawade.

In a move that marks the end of an era, the former ISL champions have also announced the departure of Bipin Singh, their longest-serving player. Khel Now understands that the 30-year-old has already found a new home.

Bipin Singh joins East Bengal

According to sources close to the matter, Bipin Singh has completed his medical and move to East Bengal FC, signing a multi-year contract with the Kolkata-based club that begins this June.

Given his contract with Mumbai City expired at the end of the 2024-25 season, East Bengal were able to acquire the winger on a free transfer. An official announcement from the Kolkata club is expected in the coming days.

This will not be Bipin’s first stint in the City of Joy. He previously turned out for ATK during the 2017-18 season, making 12 appearances and scoring twice before moving to the West Coast.

A glorious chapter with Mumbai City

Bipin joined Mumbai City FC ahead of the 2018-19 season and made his debut on October 2, 2018, in a 2-0 defeat to Jamshedpur FC. Over seven seasons, the Manipuri winger amassed 158 appearances, scoring 28 goals and registering 7 assists across all competitions.

During his tenure, Bipin played a pivotal role in the club’s most successful period, helping them clinch two ISL League Winners’ Shields and two ISL Cups. He also featured prominently in two AFC Champions League campaigns, gaining valuable continental experience.

Wearing the No. 29 jersey, Bipin forged a special bond with the Mumbai City faithful. In recognition of his service and legacy, the club has decided to retire his jersey number, giving a fitting tribute to their club legend.

A new beginning should help Bipin Singh!

The 2024–25 season was a challenging one for Bipin, who managed just one goal in 21 ISL appearances. While head coach Petr Kratky handed him 13 starts, the winger could only create 9 chances and registered 8 shots on target – numbers far below his usual standards.

At 30, Bipin Singh will hope that a change of environment and tactical setup at East Bengal can reignite his form. With aspirations to return to the Indian national team fold, the move presents a fresh opportunity to rediscover the spark that made him one of Mumbai City’s most cherished players.
