This article offers a comprehensive look at all the trophies and accolades that have defined the Chennai-based club’s journey over the years:
Chennaiyin FC’s history in the Indian Super League

Having been a part of the ISL since its inception in 2014, Chennaiyin FC, alongside ATK, were the titans of the league until 2020. The Marina Machans topped the league table in the first season and followed it up with two ISL Cup wins in 2015 and 2018.
Overall, the Southern side has made it to the playoffs five times and has been a part of the ISL Final on three occasions. Chennai were also involved in arguably the best game in ISL history – when they beat FC Goa 3-2 in the 2015 ISL Final, winning their first title.
CFC enjoyed its golden period between 2014 and 2020. However, things have been rocky recently as their highest finish since has been the sixth spot in the league table. One of ISL’s most followed teams, Chennaiyin FC will certainly be hoping to rekindle their glory days in the upcoming years.
Chennaiyin FC’s performance in the Super Cup
So far, the former ISL champions have featured in every edition of the Kalinga Super Cup. Their debut came in 2018, the tournament’s first edition, as they succumbed to Aizawl on penalties in the round of 16.
CFC’s best ever finish in this tournament came in the 2019 Super Cup as they beat Mumbai City, NorthEast United, and ATK to make it to the finals. However, FC Goa were the better side when it mattered the most as they beat Chennaiyin FC 2-1 in the summit clash to take home the trophy.
Chennaiyin FC’s performance in the Durand Cup
The Marina Machans have been invited to play in the Durand Cup four times in their history so far. Chennaiyin’s first appearance in the competition came in 2019 as they finished third in their group.
The club’s best finish came in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Durand Cup as they made it to the quarterfinals before being knocked out by Mumbai City and FC Goa, respectively. CFC will be looking to go a step further when they compete in the tournament in 2025.
Chennaiyin FC’s performance in the AFC Cup
Courtesy of their 2017-18 ISL Cup triumph, the Marina Machans were given a ticket to play in the AFC Cup 2019. Chennaiyin FC won their South Asian Zone playoff qualifier against Colombo FC and made it to the group stage.
John Gregory’s side were slotted in Group E, where they finished second with 11 points from 6 games. Bangladesh’s Dhaka Abahani finished against the Indian club and made it to the knockout stage while the ISL Champions were eliminated.
