The ISL game will be a must-win for both Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters.

The Southern rivalry will be reignited at the Marina Arena on Thursday as Chennaiyin FC welcome Kerala Blasters in ISL 2024-25. Both teams have had a forgettable season so far and only a win can help both sides gain some momentum going into the latter part of the season.

The Stakes

Chennaiyin FC

The Marina Machans are on a horrible run of form, having not registered a win in their last six Indian Super League (ISL) games. Owen Coyle’s team were completely outplayed by FC Goa as they lost 2-0 on Saturday and they are currently 10th with 18 points in the league standings.

Kerala Blasters

Kerala Blasters have struggled for consistency this season and this has led to their undoing. TG Purushothaman’s side lost their last encounter against East Bengal and are currently 8th in the ISL standings with 21 points from 18 league games. A win will take them quite close to finish in the playoff spots.

Injury Concerns and Team News

For Chennaiyin FC, Vignesh Dakshinamurthy is injured and will likely be unavailable. As in for Kerala Blasters, Freddy is suspended after picking up his fourth yellow card of the season against East Bengal.

Players to Watch

Wilmar Jordan Gil (Chennaiyin FC)

With eight goals to his name, Wilmar Jordan Gil is Chennaiyin FC’s top scorer in their 2024-25 ISL campaign so far. Kerala’s defence has made quite a few errors this season and hence Wilmar’s presence will have a major role to play if CFC are to win all three points.

Noah Sadaoui (Kerala Blasters)

The Moroccan has been a constant threat for his side this season. Noah Sadaoui has scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 ISL games. The winger was the man of the match in the reverse fixture with a goal and an assist. The Kerala Blasters would certainly be hoping for a similar performance from Noah once again.
