Dimitrios Diamantakos won the Golden Boot in the ISL 2023-24 season.

Kerala Blasters FC have announced the departure of Dimitrios Diamantakos, the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) Golden Boot winner, after two successful seasons. The 31-year-old Greek striker announced his decision on social media, expressing his gratitude to the club and fans for their support.

Dimitrios Diamantakos joined the Blasters in 2022 and quickly became a fan favorite. He scored 28 goals and provided seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a key figure in the team’s attack.

During the 2023-24 season, Dimitrios Diamantakos was instrumental in their run to the playoffs, leading the league with 13 goals in just 17 appearances.

However, despite his impressive performances, Diamantakos and the Blasters were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract. This led to speculation about his future, with several ISL clubs expressing interest in acquiring his services.

According to Marcus Mergulhao, Diamantakos has now agreed to join East Bengal FC on a two-year deal. The transfer will be made officially when the transfer window opens on June 12th.

Diamantakos’ departure leaves a significant void in the Kerala Blasters’ squad. The club will need to find a suitable replacement for their star striker if they are to challenge for the ISL title next season.

The club’s official statement on their social media page read, “Farewell to our Greek Marksman! We are incredibly grateful for your contributions to the Yellow Army over the past two seasons. You will be missed, Dimi!”

Meanwhile, East Bengal fans are excited about the prospect of having Diamantakos lead their attack. The experienced forward is expected to be a key player for the Red and Gold Brigade as they aim to improve on their 7th-place finish in the 2023-24 season.

The fans, who have shown immense love and support for Diamantakos throughout his time with the Blasters, will undoubtedly miss his presence on the field. His impact on the team and the league will be remembered for years to come.
