Oscar Bruzon has already started his work to motivate the team.
East Bengal will be looking to win their first game under new head coach Oscar Bruzon when they face Odisha FC at the Kalinga Stadium on Tuesday (22 October).
The Red & Gold Brigade are currently on a seven-match consecutive losing streak across all competitions and remains the only Indian Super League (ISL) side yet to pick up even a point so far in the 2024-25 campaign.
Oscar Bruzon is confident that his side can turn around their momentum and play with more intensity in matches to come. Bruzon detailed the areas of improvement for them to target against Odisha FC and the upcoming clashes, stating, “I’m fully confident because we have changed a lot of things in practice. It’s difficult to learn everything from one practice. The idea is to go for more goals in practices but not have very long practices.
“We are looking improve our qualities as an attacking style, the shape of the team, compactness and the understanding on when we need to activate all of our pressure and have more number of chances against the rivals.
“There has only been a few games where East Bengal created more chances than our opponents and that’s not because of our attacking prowess, but because of our defensive stages and defensive transitions. We are fully focusing on improving our numbers in defence and ensure that we are much more confidence in our attacking stages.

“Now we are trying to settle the number of goals we concede and number of chances we are conceding. We need to help our defence, understanding when and where the situations are.
“Hopefully we can win tomorrow, it’ll be fantastic if the team can change the ideas and the dynamics. But this is a process and requires time, but honestly speaking our club doesn’t have time to be in that process.”
“If we are not starting to produce results in the short term, the season will tar getting shorter and shorter and it won’t be possible for us to get top-six in the ISL.
“Right now we are in a six-seven points deficit from the sixth position, and that’s nothing, that is winning two games. The possibility of winning two consecutive games are something we hope for,” Oscar Bruzon also added.
Impact of players
The Spanish gaffer was also asked before the Odisha match if he’s held talks about bringing in any new players in the January transfer window to replace some of the existing members of the squad. Oscar Bruzon explained, “The information I can tell you is that I need to learn about the squad.
“One thing is my idea or my favorite model, but I need to understand the needs of our players and make up the most affective game-plan according to the characteristics of our players. I need to watch a lot of their game, need to record the practices and matches.
“My 100% mental efforts on that right now. I don’t want to speak about the future, because it’s not the time about talking about players going out or players coming in. I need to try to make effective training and games, to get points as soon as possible.
“If we are not getting the right performances, many of our players might need to be changed. But we need to work hard to solve the situation for ourselves, help the group and help the club know the meaning of East Bengal,” Oscar Bruzon added.
