East Bengal rope in Polish striker Lukasz Zwolinski ahead of 2026-27 season to strengthen their attacking threat

Lukasz joins the Red & Gold on a one-year deal.

East Bengal FC  have strengthened their squad with the signing of former Poland U-20 forward, Lukasz Zwolinski, ahead of the 2026-27 season, after clinching the ISL title in 2025-26 and securing their 17th Durand Cup title recently by beating their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan SG.

According to the agreement, Lukasz Zwolinski will continue to play for the Red & Gold Brigade until the completion of the current campaign. The 33-year-old will take Youssef Ezzejjari’s spot as the Red-and-Gold Brigade’s center striker after the latter left the team at the end of the last campaign.

The Red & Gold have completed the signing of the 33-year-old forward as their eighth foreign signing alongside their Spanish defender Nacho Monsalve, MD Basim Rashid, Chris Ikonomidis, Dani Ramirez, Diego Zivulic, Ake Loba and Effiong Nsungusi.

The former Poland U-20 forward comes in with a wealth of experience, having played over 200 games in the Ekstraklasa – the Polish top-tier league. He has represented the Polish U-20 team during 2012-14 and played six matches where he also scored two goals as well.

Zwolinski is a centre-forward who primarily operates as a striker. He is right-footed and stands at 1.84 metres tall. 33-year-old Lukasz have already represented several clubs across Poland and Croatia, namely Pogoń Szczecin, Górnik Łęczna, HNK Gorica, Lechia Gdańsk, Raków Częstochowa, Wisła Kraków, and Sakaryaspor.

The striker arrives in India as a free agent after ending a short one-year spell with his previous Turkish club, Sakaryaspor. Now he is ready to wear the Red & Gold jersey. In the Sakaryaspor outfit, he has made 24 league appearances and scored four goals in the Turkish 1. Lig last season in 2025-26.

Zwoliński mostly grew up through the youth academy of Polish top-flight side Pogoń Szczecin, making 113 appearances and scoring 22 goals before breaking into the senior team, for which he played 120 times, scoring 25 goals and assisting nine more.

A notable part of his career was at Lechia Gdańsk, where he scored 36 goals in 94 appearances. The Red and Gold attack will surely be strengthened by the addition of a prolific striker like Lukasz under Antonio Lopez Habas’ system in the new season.

What Could He Bring to East Bengal FC?

If we look at East Bengal FC’s history, he will become the first Polish player to don the Red & Gold jersey. He will have the chance to collaborate with players with prior Polish football experience at East Bengal, like Dani Ramírez.

As the East Bengal FC team prepares to compete in the ISL and ACL Two Group Stage, Lukasz is a physical specimen, with a height of about 6’0″, which can be a very good trait for attacking stability in aerial duels alongside Ake Loba and Effiong. Additionally, his vast experience suggests that he might be a key player in Antonio Lopez Habas’ system in the new season.

The squad may have an additional option in the last third because of Lukasz’s ability to play as a central striker. However, the choices made by Habas will determine his precise role, anticipated playing time, and tactical fit.

With his extensive experience playing in nations like Poland, Croatia, and Turkey, in addition to European club championships, he provides the Moshal Brigade with exposure both domestically and internationally.
