Manolo Marquez also spoke about the Bengaluru FC win.
In the lead-up to FC Goa’s upcoming match against Punjab FC, head coach Manolo Marquez reflected on his team’s performance this season and their standing compared to table-toppers Bengaluru FC.
Despite having achieved a notable victory against Bengaluru in their last encounter, Marquez emphasized that the Indian Super League (ISL) is characterized by unpredictable outcomes, making it difficult to draw clear distinctions between teams.
Manolo Marquez began by acknowledging the challenges FC Goa has faced at the start of the season, stating, “I think that my experience in India says that as a coach, you cannot be very negative or pessimistic when you lose or don’t win. You can be angry because the team is not doing the correct things.”
He emphasized the competitiveness of the league, noting that the gap between the top teams and those at the bottom is not as significant as it may appear. “I don’t see too much difference between the top teams and the last teams,” Manolo Marquez said.

He continued by illustrating his point through hypothetical matchups, stating, “If today Bengaluru plays against East Bengal, I wouldn’t bet on either team. I say that would be a very equal game.” Marquez pointed out the tightly contested nature of the league, where any team can claim victory on a given day.
He went on to reference a recent match between Mumbai City FC and Kerala Blasters FC, suggesting that had it not been for a red card shown to Khwame Peprah player, the game could have easily ended in a draw.”
We are checking every day the other day if Pepra doesn’t receive the red card Maybe the game finishes 2-2 It’s very very similar to the competition. All teams can beat the opponent all teams can beat the opponent,” the Spaniard opined
Regarding the victory over Bengaluru FC, Marquez reflected on the confidence his players carried into that match, despite acknowledging the unpredictability of football. “We knew that we could win against Bengaluru. Not 3-0, but we were confident that we could win that game,” Manolo Marquez remarked.
