A sigh of relief for the Gaurs in the stoppage time

Sporting Club Delhi were left frustrated after FC Goa snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw with a stoppage-time equaliser at the Fatorda Stadium on Wednesday.

Juan Pena’s second-half strike appeared to have secured Delhi their first victory of the Indian Super League campaign, but Álex Vallejo rescued a point for the hosts in the 90+5th minute.

Both teams started with attacking intent, pressing high up the pitch in search of an early breakthrough. FC Goa created the first opportunity in the eighth minute when Samsanga narrowly missed the target at the far post.

The forward thought he had scored in the 19th minute after being played through by Francisco Feuillassier, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The Gaurs continued to threaten, with Muhammed Nemil firing just over the crossbar in the 37th minute after an excellent first touch created space in the final third.

Alexander Vallejo’s equalizer against SC Delhi made FC Goa escape another defeat

FC Goa resumed the second half on the front foot, with Nemil picking out Feuillassier inside the six-yard box. However, Nora Fernandes produced a crucial save to deny the hosts and keep Sporting Club Delhi in the contest.

Delhi made the most of that reprieve in the 52nd minute. Launching a swift counterattack, Rodrigunho provided the assist for Pena, who finished emphatically with his right foot to give the visitors the lead.

As the match entered its closing stages, FC Goa intensified their search for an equaliser. A defensive error from Delhi presented Vallejo with an opportunity in the first minute of stoppage time, but his cross failed to produce the desired result as Chiki missed the target.

The hosts eventually found their breakthrough in the fifth minute of added time. Feuillassier delivered a dangerous free-kick into the penalty area, and Vallejo timed his run perfectly to meet the ball in front of the goalkeeper and turn it into the net.

The late equaliser denied Sporting Club Delhi a hard-earned victory and ensured that the points were shared after a fiercely contested encounter in Fatorda.
