FC Goa leapfrog themselves to the second position of the ISL table.
In a thrilling match at the JLN stadium in Fatorda, FC Goa showcased their dominance by defeating a 10-man Chennaiyin FC with a scoreline of 4-1 in an exciting Indian Super League (ISL) clash. Despite qualifying for the playoffs both the teams named a strong lineup for the fixture.
Rahim Ali continued his fine run of form and put the visitors ahead. However, a red card offense by Sachin Sibu with a subsequent penalty in the 33rd minute turned the game for the Goa side.
Borja Herrera scored the goal in the 33rd minute for Goa. A penalty from Carlos Martinez and a goal from Brandon Fernandes put Goa in the driver’s seat by 3-1 at halftime. In the second half, Carlos Martinez scored his double to give FC Goa the well-deserved win before the playoffs.
FC Goa will want Mumbai City to decimate Mohun Bagan in the final league game tomorrow to qualify for the semi-finals and bypass the playoff eliminator. Should Mumbai City fail to beat Mohun Bagan tomorrow FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC will be poised for the double-legged playoff fixture.
