ISL 2024-25 Final: Edgar Mendez calls out refereeing discrepancies during summit clash

The Blues attacker had a rough night against the Mariners.
The 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) Final had some notable moments over the 90 minutes. However, one of the eye catching moments from the game was the Edgar Mendez substitution in the 68th minute.
The Spaniard was replaced by Jorge Pereyra Diaz as the Blues searched for a two goals lead early in the second half. But Mendez had a lot to show the cameras before leaving the field, a leg full of bloody gashes and bruises.
The gesture from the Spaniard suggested that he was not happy with something that had happened on the field.
Was Edgar Mendez right to be upset?

The 35-year-old was one of the Blues’ players who fought with everything he had for his side on the night against a strong Mohun Bagan Super Giant team. The Spaniard was constantly in physical duels throughout the nights and had reservations on refereeing decisions.
While Mendez has always been criticised for acting out after receiving challenges, the Spaniard might have a point this time around. The visible evidence of the battering he endured was there for all fans to witness and wonder how the referees missed it.

Was the ISL Final marred by refereeing inconsistencies?
The 2024-25 ISL Final had its share of controversial moments where fouls and tackles from Mohun Bagan players were not penalized appropriately. In one of the challenges, Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s Deepak Tangri made a serious challenge against Bengaluru FC’s Alberto Noguera.
While there were several other instances in the game, the referees seemed less than pleased to do anything regarding those challenges. Mendez’s hilarious call out of the decisions makes one wonder what the referees were thinking in the magnitude of a game of ISL Final stakes.
