Kerala Blasters will face off against Punjab FC on September 15th.

The excitement is building up and all eyes are on the 11th edition of the Indian Super League (ISL), which kicked off on September 13. However, then again, JLN Stadium will have to wait a little more for their chance to witness that yellow sea and the passion wave that flows across Kerala. Kerala Blasters FC will start their campaign off and running on 15th September when they take Punjab FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi.

This season is a critical one for the Blasters, as they are the only team in the ISL yet to secure a major trophy. With Mikael Stahre making his debut season as the head coach in the ISL, he has a huge task ahead of him, filling the shoes of Ivan Vukomanović and putting an end to the club’s long trophy drought.

Major Changes for the New Season

Kerala Blasters have gone for massive changes ahead of this season, but the biggest one was probably the departure of head coach Ivan Vukomanović. The man kept things solid and steady at the club, hence the days when he would leave a huge void. Stahre has experience in several European clubs that help keep the new Blasters in line while showing the passion and energy that fans have come to expect.

The team also saw key departures, including top scorer Dimitrios Diamantakos, Jeakson Singh, and Marko Lešković. In between, there have been departures, yet Blasters have somehow ensured a good core and some high-profile signings: Alexandre Coeff, Noah Sadaoui, Jesús Jiménez as an experienced addition in the attacking department, and Som Kumar, the promising goalkeeper, which has only raised the expectations graph of this season.

Preseason Campaign

Kerala Blasters kicked off their preseason campaign with high hopes, beginning in Thailand and later transitioning to the Durand Cup in India. The Blasters began as giants, storming through the group stages as champions and making headlines with a record-breaking 7-0 victory over Mumbai City FC – the biggest win in the club’s history. But finally, their campaign ended with a quarterfinal exit at the hands of Bengaluru FC, leaving the fans and the club frustrated.

After this worth time of effort spent in Kolkata, this team returned to the crucial phase to rectify the flaws and bring changes to their game plan. Also, they played friendlies to have the team up to speed going into their opener in the ISL. Hopefully, it would pay off at the right moment of results as they prepare for what could be a tough season that lays ahead.

Mikael Stahre’s team is expected to continue playing an attacking style of football, highlighting their recent campaigns. A lot of ups and downs had come by in between, but hopefully, all positives would be taken while the Blasters are preparing for the ISL. The fans also hope that the club will perform better, coming closer to winning the title that so far has eluded them.
