Hugo Boumous was seen limping off the pitch after full-time.
In Odisha FC’s disappointing start to the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign which continued with their 2-1 loss to Punjab FC, Hugo Boumous picked a knock in the game. It marked the second straight loss for Sergio Lobera’s side in the new campaign as they remain with zero points in the opening phase of the new campaign.
But the match turned out to be a particularly damning one for the Juggernauts due to the injury sustained by inspired midfielder Hugo Boumous in the defeat. The 27-year-old was one of his side’s better players in the defeat, as he created two genuine goal-scoring chances and was rather unfortunate not to get a direct assist in the defeat.
The influential midfielder was rather unfortunate to pick up a knock in the final phase of the defeat, as he held onto his shoulder and was seen in apparent pain in the defeat. After Odisha FC pulled one back in the 2-1 loss to Punjab FC, in which the 27-year-old midfielder played a key role in helping his side get that goal, Boumous ended up suffering a back injury in the entire ordeal leading to that own-goal for the Shers.
Additionally, a more pressing concern was that Hugo Boumous was seen in a rather fragile shape after the game as he was helped out of the stadium in New Delhi. The Frenchman needed help from some medical staff members to be carried out of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium after the Juggernauts’ defeat to Punjab FC and now seems a major doubt for Odisha’s upcoming ISL game against Jamshedpur FC on 28th September.
This might end up being a huge loss for Sergio Lobera’s side considering how influential Boumous has been for their frontline in the start of the new campaign. While he might not have provided that many assists in the ISL so far in the 2024-25 season, Boumous remains a key player for the Juggernauts’ midfield line and a key member of their creative force. The Spanish gaffer will hope that his influential midfield star will be fully fit for the upcoming ISL clash as Odisha FC keep looking for their first win of the 2024-25 campaign.
