Jamie Maclaren is heavily linked with an Indian Super League heavyweight.
One of Australia’s finest footballing talent Jamie Maclaren is all set to end his A-League career and embark on a new journey. The Melbourne City FC skipper played his last match this previous weekend before bidding goodbye to the City Blues.
Maclaren is rumored to have received a big money offer from Indian Super League (ISL) Shield winners Mohun Bagan and could very well be headed to India this summer. In an recent interview with The Guardian, the striker from down under opened up about his life and more.
Becoming a father
The A-League top scorer was recently blessed with a baby girl. He opened up and shared his thoughts on becoming a father and said how it changed his life.
“When I had Remy, it changed my whole outlook on life, and this game. I’m a father now so when you have a baby that enters the world, your mental state shifts. You think about external things and what will benefit your family, and that’s certainly one that’s, first and foremost, in front of my mind,” he asserted.
Missing out on the 2023 AFC Asian Cup
Jamie Maclaren was left out of Australia’s squad for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. He said that he understood his omission from the Socceroos’ squad and just carried on with his football.
“After the Asian Cup, when I knew that I wasn’t playing for the Socceroos that maybe a fresh start [was needed]. I understood the Asian Cup omission and just carried on with my football. Goals come, minutes come, that will take care of itself. If it doesn’t, then obviously I know that I’ve been at two World Cups and an Asian Cup so I can’t control what Arnie does,” he quipped.
Next challenge
The A-League legend also spoke about his next challenge and said that he did not want to regret turning down a new opportunity and needed a new challenge.
“You don’t want to regret not taking opportunities because you want to have a nice pasta down the road with your coffee. It is our job, people forget sometimes we have to put food on the table.”
The forward also said that his wife is really supportive and he is eagerly looking forward to what’s coming up. “She supports me, she has for 11 years now throughout everything, so I really look forward to our next chapter,” he added.
