Who is Jamie Maclaren, Australian star linked with Mohun Bagan?

The defending Indian Super League (ISL) champions Mohun Bagan are on the verge of acquiring the services of Australian International Jamie Maclaren in a high-profile deal that will make him one of the most highly-paid players to have ever played in the league.
Maclaren belongs to the top caliber of strikers in Asia and has played his football in Australia and Scotland. The 30-year-old will be the fourth Australian addition to the Mariners’ squad if he signs for the club. He has also represented Australia on the international stage with his latest appearance coming in Australia’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Prior Experience
Jamie Maclaren has come up through the ranks of Australian side Green Gully SC where he competed against older players. He then joined English side Blackburn Rovers in 2009 and earned his first contract after scoring a hat-trick against Manchester United.
He then returned to Australia and joined Perth Glory on a three-year contract. He recorded his best numbers in the 2014-15 season as he scored 10 goals in 23 appearances for Perth Glory across all competitions. After that, Jamie moved to Brisbane Roar and signed a two-year deal, and scored 18 goals in his first A-League season for the Lions. The following season Maclaren won the A-League Golden Boot as he scored 19 goals in the Orange shirt.
He then moved to Germany and signed for Bundesliga 2 club Darmstadt 98 before being loaned out to Scottish outfit Hibernian. During his loan spell in Scotland, the forward managed to score a hat-trick against Scottish giants Rangers FC.
In 2019, Jamie Maclaren signed for Melbourne City FC and won the Golden Boot in his very first season by scoring 22 goals. During his time with the City Blues, Jamie became their record goal-scorer with 103 goals to his name. He will now bid goodbye to the Australian top flight as the league’s record top scorer with 149 goals to his name. Moreover, he has won three back-to-back A-League titles for Melbourne City FC.
Type of Player
Jamie Maclaren is possibly one of the best players to have ever represented Australia. He is a lethal goal-scorer and has scored goals everywhere he has gone. He can play extremely well with both his feet which will make him an even lethal weapon for Mohun Bagan.
He is a proper No.9 who has the will and hunger to find the back of the net. Maclaren is known for his positioning and is always there at the right place at the right time. He pounces on every opportunity that he gets and can convert even a half-chance into a goal.
What does he bring to the team?
Expectations are very high for the Socceroos international given his proven track record. Jamie Maclaren will add a lot more than just goal-scoring to the Mariners’ camp. He has been a successful captain over the years and his leadership quality will come very handy for Mohun Bagan.
The striker also has the experience of playing at the highest stage in Asia and his experience will benefit the Mariners big time at the continental stage. Moreover, he can make the most out of the chances that Dimitri Petratos will create during the game. Expect him to hit the ground running for the Mariners.
