ISL 2024-25: Jamshedpur FC vs East Bengal – Build-up

Jamshedpur FC look to get back to winning ways when they host a shaky East Bengal FC side at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on Saturday (5 October) in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25.

The Men of Steel will look to put the disappointing result against Odisha FC behind them and regain their winning form. The Red & Gold Brigade, however, look to get their first points of the campaign under interim coach Bino George and get out of their early season rut.

The Stakes

Jamshedpur FC

Khalid Jamil has gotten his side performing really well towards the beginning of the season, but they experienced certain issues against Odisha FC. The Men of Steel have been in impressive form at the ‘Furnace’ under Jamil and face an East Bengal side on a five-match losing streak.

Jamshedpur just need to regain their composure and stick to their principles, feeding off their energetic home fans to produce an explosive performance. A big win can definitely help the players regain their confidence or momentum, but dropping points can pose questions about their ability to earn a playoff place.

East Bengal

The Kolkata heavyweights have turned a new leaf after Carles Cuadrat’s departure and Bino George will be in charge for this match. The Indian mentor knows the ins and outs of the squad, especially the domestic players, as he aims to use that understanding to help raise their performance levels.

With nothing really to lose, George will probably urge his team to be fearless and go with an attack-minded approach to take the fight to Jamshedpur FC. Of course, another loss will be disastrous for East Bengal, but a draw might not be the worst result in the current circumstances. A win, however, can provide a huge boost to the squad and increase the management’s faith in George too.

Javi Hernandez was on fire in his last home game for Jamshedpur FC, as his brace helped them get a big win over Mumbai City FC. The Spaniard will aim for a similar showing to torment East Bengal and get into the prime attacking areas to amplify his side’s goal threat. Javi has helped add composure and compactness to his side’s midfield with his clever work on the ball, creating a few chances per game already.

He’s quite the creative player, especially on set-pieces, and will look to prove that by creating big chances with his pin-point accurate passes into the final third. Hernandez can be pivotal in opening up East Bengal’s backline and harrow them as Borja Herrera did in the last game.

Nandhakumar Sekar has had a dim start to the new ISL campaign, failing to get any goals or assists in the three games so far. The winger has shown a decent work rate with his hard-working nature but needs to start contributing prominently to keep his starting XI role intact in the new era.

Nandha has to be more decisive with his work in the final third, which includes sending in more inviting passes into the box or sliding into more goal-scoring areas himself. He has to tap into the clinical side of his game but he harbors enough potential to cause problems for Jamshedpur FC and help his side unlock their defensive shape.
