The Furnace hosted its first-ever ISL semi-final match in eight years.

Jamshedpur FC locked horns against ISL Shield Winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the first leg of the ISL Semi-Finals. After getting the better of North East United FC, the Red Miners were keen to make the most of their home advantage and take a decisive lead before heading towards Kolkata.

The Mariners, on the other hand, would be looking forward to completing a domestic double. Jose Molina has a golden opportunity to become the second coach in ISL history, after Sergio Lobera to win the ISL Shield and the ISL Trophy in the same season and etch his name in the ISL Hall of Fame.

Jamshedpur FC clinched a win against the Mariners and took a decisive yet slender lead. Khalid will be in high spirits as just 90 minutes separate him from making history and reaching the ISL Finals.

Here are the player ratings from the first-leg encounter:

Jamshedpur FC (by Saikat Sengupta)

Albino Gomes – 8.5

Albino was the show-stopper for Jamshedpur FC tonight. His presence between the sticks is always a sight to behold for the Red Miners as his reflexes and crucial saves were important to help Jamshedpur FC secure a vital draw against the mighty Mariners.

Ashutosh Mehta – 6.5

Ashutosh Mehta will miss the next game after picking up two consecutive yellow cards. A nervy moment from Mehta saw him losing control and giving away a set-piece opportunity to the Mariners, which was converted beautifully by Jason Cummings.

Pronay Halder – 7.0

Pronay single-handedly ensured the Red Miners did not miss Pratik Chaudhari’s presence. Halder brilliantly lived up to Khalid’s expectations and delivered a crucial performance against his former side. It is never easy to defensively hold a team like Mohun Bagan, which boasts some of the finest strikers in the league.

Stephen Eze – 8.0

Eze’s goal in the last match against the Highlanders led the Red Miners into the ISL Semi-Finals. This match was no different as Eze not only held the defence tight but also made those runs in the opposition half to make most of those set pieces.

Md Uvais – 8.0

Khalid Jamil’s team scoring from a long ball is something that makes the Red Miners erupt in jubilation. Uvais’ long throw was perfectly converted into a goal by Javier Siverio, who helped the home side break the deadlock against the Mariners.

Sourav Das – 7.0

Amidst a lot of ambiguity surrounding Sourav’s selection, he lived up to the expectation pretty well. After missing out on the previous game against the Highlanders after being suspended, he returned to the playing 11 after Mobashir picked a red card in the last match. His ability to dictate the tempo of the game was brilliant for the Red Miners.

Nikhil Barla – 7.5

The young lad from Jharkhand has unarguably been a delight to watch this season. His overlapping runs and crosses from the right flank of the pitch were a constant threat for Jose Molina’s side. His acceleration and speed always spark a different level of energy for the Red Miners.

Md Sanan – 7.0

The 20-year-old young prodigy continues to showcase his composure and ability to perform in those big matches. Sanan’s pinpoint passes and crosses into the D Box were always critical for the Red Miners as they registered a vital win against the Red Miners.

Javi Hernandez – 9.5

No wonder, why Javi is one of the most decorated foreign players to ever feature in the ISL. The captain of the Red Miners always leads by example. When the match seemed all done and dusted, Javi scored a goal in the dying seconds to help the home side take a decisive lead.

Javier Siverio – 8.5

Despite Siverio not playing more than 60 minutes, his impactful presence was key for the Red Miners as he gave them a crucial lead in the game. His cool, calm and composed header was the turning point as the Furnace was behind the team after that opening goal.

Jordan Murray – 8.0

Jordan is a big match player and he continues to prove this every time he steps onto the field. Playing against a team that boasts of defensive stalwarts like Bose, Aldred and Rodriguez, it is never easy to make those runs and constantly test the opposition goalkeeper, but Murray did exactly the same.

Substitutes –

Rei Tachikawa – 7.5

Rei’s arrival for the last half an hour did bring in a new level of energy and exuberance within the team. Those scenes of Khalid kissing Tachikawa before subbing him for Siverio reflected his belief in the Japanese and he did everything right to make the home fans happy.

Ritwik Das – 8.5

Ritwik deserves to get an opportunity in the playing 11 for the Red Miners as he has constantly delivered some game-changing assists. That assist from Ritwik and goal from Javi made things a lot easier for the Red Miners as they are just 90 minutes away from creating history.

VS Sreekuttan – NA

Lazar Cirkovic – NA

Mohun Bagan Super Giant (By: Anuj T)

Vishal Kaith- 5.5

Made two saves against Jamshedpur’s attackers and was helpless in stopping the opening goal against his team.

RB: Asish Rai- 5.5

Had a physical test against Mohammad Sanan but defended against him effectively. He also made 2 tackles and also successfully completed 25 passes. However, he looked leggy and was at fault for conceding a second goal.

Alberto Rodriguez- 5.5

Defended really well against Jamshedpur attackers, winning aerial duels and keeping Murray at bay. He also made 59 successful passes to his teammates and kept the ball rolling.

Tom Aldred- 5.5

Partnered up well with Rodriguez and apart from conceding the goal, controlled opponent attackers. He made 1 successful tackle, 1 foul and 53 accurate passes.

Subashish Bose- 5.5

Made some mistakes early in the game, however, grew into it as Mohun Bagan settled down. While an early goal shook some confidence, the defender made 58 accurate passes, 1 successful tackle and 1 foul in the game.

Abdul Sahal Samad- 5

Sahal had chances to get a goal for himself but failed to impress and make a chance for his team.

Anirudh Thapa- 5.5

Worked his socks off in the midfield, however didn’t run back to cover Javi Hernandez, who scored a vital second goal.

Deepak Tangri- 5

Got outran and turned by Mohun Bagan attackers and midfielders time and again. A tough night at the office for Tangri in a Mohun Bagan shirt.

Liston Colaco- 6

Colaco was highly active on his team’s left wing. He looked threatening all night, however was left frustrated by his teammates to make that killer pass or apply the finishing touch.

Greg Stewart- 5.5

Stewart was not at his effective best and failed to leave his imprint on the game. A night to forget for Stewart against Khalid Jamil’s men.

Jason Cummings- 6.5

Cummings got a goal out of nothing for his team with a sumptuous and inch-perfect free-kick. He was the most threatening player, however faded away in the second half.
