Juan Pedro Benali also praised one of his players ahead of the ISL clash.
The Indian Super League (ISL) will resume its proceedings after the international break in Guwahati as Juan Pedro Benali’s NorthEast United FC welcome Chennaiyin FC to their base. The Highlanders played out a 3-3 draw with FC Goa in their last outing and dropped points twice from a winning position.
Meanwhile, Chennaiyin FC have struggled to find consistency this season and have tasted a win, defeat and a draw in their opening three games. They come into this game on the back of a disappointing 0-0 draw against Hyderabad FC and will be keen to get things back on track.
Thoughts on the opposition
Ahead of the game, NorthEast United FC’s head coach Juan Pedro Benali addressed the media and spoke about his thoughts on Chennaiyin FC. Benali said that the Marina Machans have a peculiar style and are physically very strong. “We’re playing against a nice team, a team who has a very peculiar style. Owen Coyle’s style, we know it. They’re a strong team, physically very strong and they don’t give you a chance to breathe. And we hope at home we can do much better than the last game and get the three points.”

Juan Pedro Benali on dropping points
The Spanish head coach also spoke about his side’s habit of dropping points from winning positions. Juan Pedro Benali said that it’s happening due to the mistakes of the younger player, but that’s the beauty of the game. “The other problem is some concentration mistakes from young ones especially and this is the beauty of football, you know, we’re growing. We need to make mistakes, if not how will we learn,” Juan Pedro Benali asserted.
About Parthib Gogoi
NorthEast United FC’s poster boy Parthib Gogoi has received a lot of criticism this season. The Spaniard opened up about the same and said that it’s very normal for him to make mistakes at this age. “It’s normal, especially with a young guy who was growing very fast.
“You know everybody starts to make him a huge star. But he’s learning to be strong mentally. He’s learning because he saw that he was not very good before. He’s not very bad now.”
He also added that Parthib has the potential to make it big in Indian football. “All people who were putting him so high and now they’re killing him. He learned this is football. And at this moment everybody says his performance is not very good. He will be one of the best players in India,” Juan Pedro Benali signed off.
