East Bengal rejuvenated their Indian Super League (ISL) playoffs hopes with a thrilling 4-2 win over Kerala Blasters at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi on Wednesday (April 3). In what was an action-packed game, the Red & Gold Brigade recovered strongly from being 1-0 down initially.
Bino George praises East Bengal’s effort in the win
Assistant coach Bino George didn’t only praise the goal-scorers but every player, especially the substitutes, for this big win. He said after the match: “After the first half, we made changes which me and the head coach discussed with each other. The substitutions worked well and the players were happy to play against them. The players worked hard and proved that we can fight for that sixth position.”
Top-six expectations raised with this result?
When asked if this win can raise the expectations for East Bengal to clinch that sixth spot for the playoffs, the assistant coach replied: “We are not thinking about anything like that, we’re only looking forward to the next match. Of course, we want to qualify for the playoffs as it is our goal. We have a plan, the coach has a plan and we’ll all stick to that plan.”
Praise for Aman CK
Bino George had special praise for the younger East Bengal players, including Aman CK, for the impact made. He also believes this win can further motivate the players heading into the final games. He remarked: “In the second half today, Aman made a great impact after coming on and that was the turning point of the match.
“Coach Carles wanted to back more youngsters in the team and they are doing a fantastic job. They’ll be groomed by getting opportunities. The next match is against Bengaluru FC at our home. We’ll try our best to qualify for the playoffs,” he added.
Entire East Bengal united to achieve top-six finish
Finally, Bino George reiterated that everyone at East Bengal is focused on making it into the ISL playoffs after this crucial win against a side like Kerala Blasters. He stated: “Kerala are a good side who have already qualified for the playoffs. Obviously, everyone will be more motivated with this win and get more confidence for the upcoming games.
“The players showed great unity, worked hard and played a game after a long gap. Everyone has one goal, not just the coaching staff, which is to get to the playoffs. We all want to achieve that objective heading into the final games,” he finished with.
