ISL 2024-25: Dates for all major derbies during first half of campaign

Some big matches to look forward to in October

The 2024-25 Indian Super League(ISL) is set to kick off on 13 September (2024) when defending league shield champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant face the previous ISL playoff winners Mumbai City. It’ll mark a blockbuster beginning to what is expected to be a thrilling campaign involving 13 teams with the introduction of Mohammedan Sporting.

The ISL organizers have confirmed the dates of all matches up until 30 December, which is likely to mark the first half of the campaign. But some particular matches are expected to be a bit more heated and emotional than the rest of them. These matches are those that will be contested between rival clubs in the ISL, be it those in Kolkata or the different Southern Derbies.

Of course, the biggest rivalry in Indian Football remains the one involving Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The two Kolkata clubs have strengthened their squads prominently over this summer and are likely to be involved in even more competitive, heated derbies.

When will Mohun Bagan and East Bengal take place?

The ISL organizers have confirmed that the first Kolkata derby between the Mariners and the Red & Gold Brigade will happen after the Durga Puja festival. The match is set to take place at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on October 19. It will have a 7:30 PM IST kick-off, like all the other ISL matches, and the stadium is definitely going to be packed to the rafters for the first Kolkata Derby of the campaign.

When will the Kerala Blasters-Bengaluru FC derby take place?

Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters have shared an intense rivalry in the ISL over the years and it turned bitter after their infamous playoff clash in the 2022-23 season. The first derby between them in the 2024-25 ISL season will happen on October 25 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi. The Tuskers will then travel to Bengaluru to face the Blues at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on December 7.

When will the mini-Kolkata derbies happen?

The inclusion of Mohammedan Sporting means that the Black Panthers will now be able to resume their rivalry with Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in the ISL. All three clubs share a rich history in Indian Football and Mohammedan Sporting also considers both the Mariners and East Bengal to be their city rivals.

The first ‘mini Kolkata derby’ will happen when Mohun Bagan faces Mohammedan Sporting at the Salt Lake Stadium on October 5. The Black Panthers will then face off against East Bengal on November 9.

The other Southern Derby dates

Chennaiyin FC also share a rivalry with Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters in the ISL and are involved in a few Southern Derbies themselves. They will face Kerala Blasters in their first such derby on November 24 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Kochi. Chennaiyin FC will then host Bengaluru FC in their own yard on December 28.
