The Black and White Brigade went excruciatingly close to a historic win but in vain.

Mohammedan SC took on FC Goa in their second fixture of the Indian Super League 2024-25 season at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. The Black and White Brigade was able to secure their first point from the 1-1 draw against Manolo Marquez’s side.

Despite the visitors conceding first and a first win looking likely for the debutants, FC Goa made a crucial comeback in the dying minutes of the game with Armando Sadiku scoring the equalizer for the Gaurs. After Argentine linchpin, Alexis Gomez made it count from the spot in the 63rd minute of the game, Mohammedan SC gave it their all to get their first three points in the Indian Super League. However, it seems like the newbies have to wait a bit longer to claim their first win in the Indian top flight.

Mohammedan SC (By Dipro Mukherjee)

Padam Chhetri (GK) – 6

After a lean performance in the game against NorthEast United FC, Padam Chhetri did make his mark in the game. Though the Gaurs didn’t test him much for most of the game, he did make a crucial save in the first half of the game and also acted as a sweeper to evade danger.

Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak: 8

Zuidika was undoubtedly the best Indian player for Mohammedan SC today against FC Goa. The offensive fullback’s presence on the right flank boosted the team’s tempo. His work rate, both on the attacking and defensive fronts made him one of the best players tonight. He made five passes into the final third, one ground clearance, one aerial clearance, and four recoveries while also winning all of his five ground duels and two aerial duels.

Gaurav Bora – 6.5

The Indian center-back synced well with vigilant Ghanaian, Joseph Adjei, at the heart of the Mohammedan defense. His well-timed clearances and rock-solid defending while maintaining good passing accuracy ensured a strong backline for the Black and White Brigade throughout the game. Gaurav made a total of four clearances and four recoveries.

Zodingliana Ralte – 6

The Mohammedan skipper’s involvement in today’s game had more of an offensive notion, making runs down the left flank and launching the ball into the final third. Though his contribution to safeguarding his team on the back foot didn’t leave much to comment upon, Zodingliana Ralte made four recoveries during the game.

Amarjit Singh Kiyam – 6

Amarjit along with Mirjalol Kasimov formed Mohammedan SC’s base in the middle of the park. While Kasimov was charging into the opposition’s defense, Amarjit played a tactical supporting role to his teammate, making dummy runs off the ball, and positioning himself aptly.

Makan Winkle Chothe: 7

The young speedster of the Black and White Brigade created two big chances and also made eight recoveries against FC Goa. He also attempted a shot on goal but it went off the woodwork.

F. Lalremsanga: 5.5

Lalremsanga’s game tonight wasn’t the best of his performances. The Indian winger did try leaving his mark on the game but wasn’t able to make the best out of his chances.

Substitutes:

Sagolsem Bikash Singh – 5

Bikash came in as a substitute for Makan Chothe in the second half of the game but couldn’t do much to make his mark.

FC Goa (By Parashar Kalita)

Laxmikant Kattimani (GK): 8.0

Kattimani‘s clever saves were the reason the team did not concede a single goal. He was hard to beat in open play, making seven saves; only the penalty to the right bottom corner got past the Indian goalkeeper.

Udanta Singh – 5.5

The right-back was tested multiple times and could have cost a penalty for pulling the shirt of Joseph Adjei in the first half. In attack, he created a chance for Borja Herrera in the 62nd minute, which was blocked.

Nim Dorjee Tamang: 5.0

Nim Dorjee‘s passing was good, but he received a yellow card. Since he was close to getting another card, the coach substituted him at halftime.

Jay Gupta: 5.5

A poor day for the defender; the first-half chances were created from his side. It looked like he couldn’t match the speed of the attacking players from MSC. After halftime, his position changed to center-back.

Ayush Dev Chhetri – 6

An average day for the defensive midfielder. Maintained 91% passing accuracy. Substituted in the first half.

Boris Singh – 5.5

He took the first shot on target in the fifth minute of the game and helped his defense on some occasions.

Brison Fernandes – 4.5

Brison was not effective while playing in the right-wing position. He created a chance for Armando Sadiku but the header was off-target which led to him getting subbed off at halftime.

Substitutions

Rowlin Borges – 5.0

Rowlin Borges came on after halftime and had an average game with 79% passing accuracy.

Aakash Sangwan – 6.0

Sangwan put in a fine cross in the dying stages of the game which assisted Armando Sadiku who was at the right place at the right time to convert it and earn a point for the Gaurs.

Seriton Fernandes – 6.0

Suffered lapses in his defensive positioning on some occasions. Created a chance for his team in the 70th minute and maintained a passing accuracy of 81%, completing 26 passes.

Muhammed Nemil – N/A

The substitute had golden opportunity, as Padam Chettri was out of position; however, his cross was blocked.
