ISL 2024-25: Mohammedan SC squad, schedule, fixtures, results

Andrey Chernyshov’s stint at Mohammedan SC this season will be his first as a coach in ISL.

It’s been eleven years since the Indian Super League’s (ISL) inception into the Indian Football pyramid with a vision to nurture the footballing landscape in India. With that being said, it was only in the 2020-21 season when the two Kolkata heavyweights, Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC finally made their ISL debuts.

Today, as we inch closer to the onset of the 2024-25 season of the ISL, the last remaining heavyweight from the city rooted deep into the maidan culture has made its way into the Indian top-flight league.

Mohammedan SC, the reigning champions of the I-League, India’s second-division football tournament, will be heading into the ISL 2024-25 season as debutants. The upcoming edition of the I-League will also be the first edition in the long run, which won’t have any Kolkata-based clubs.

Mohammedan SC Head Coach, Andrey Chernyshov will also be making his debut as a coach in the Indian Super League, this season. After a hapless exit in the Durand Cup 2024, the Black-and-White Brigade hope to revamp clinically in the Indian Super League under Andrey Chernyshov’s tactical acumen. In the first half of the 2024-25 season, Mohammedan Sporting Club has 14 games scheduled.

According to the knockout qualification rules, the top two teams after the league will automatically advance to the semifinals, while the top six teams will automatically advance to the knockout stages.

Mohammedan SC’s Slavic tactician will be eyeing a top-six berth in their maiden campaign. Mohammedan SC’s advancement into the Indian Super League has also increased the number of games that will be played as a whole, and it also heightened the tournament’s competitive stature while adding a bit more flare to the upcoming season’s excitement.

The development under Andrey Chernyshov’s tactical framework has seen a huge change in their growth curve on a positive note.

Mohammedan Sporting Club will play their maiden game in the ISL on September 16, 2024, against the Durand Cup 2024 champions, NorthEast United FC, at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
