Jose Molina also mentioned his confidence in all players performing well.
Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan picked up a compelling 2-0 win over East Bengal in their first Kolkata derby in the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign. Jamie Maclaren opened the scoring with a clinical predatorial strike in the 41st minute to put his side in the driving seat.
The Mariners maintained control of the game until the end before substitute Dimitri Petratos earned a penalty, which he converted in the 89th minute to seal the three points for his side.
What was particularly impressive about Mohun Bagan’s win on the night was how they did it even while having star players like Dimitri Petratos, Jason Cummings and Sahal Abdul Samad on the bench.
That is why Jose Molina was asked after the game if he has different combinations of players planned for matches ahead. When questioned about his rotational policy planning, he explained, “Maybe yes, maybe no. We’ll see how we line up in the next matches.
“I’m absolutely happy with all of them, the ones starting and those on the bench. The players must understand that because sometimes when you are not in the lineup on the bench, or those who are outside and not even on the bench.”
“For example, Suhail and Glan Martins were out, but I’m absolutely happy with them and they are working well. I must make the decisions, not everyone can play all the time. I’m making the decisions based on which players are best for the team in every match.

“Today’s decision was the right one for today’s match, for the Hyderabad match, I still don’t know what my decisions will be. I want to prepare the game for the Hyderabad match and before that game will only I make my decisions,” Jose Molina concluded.
The Mariners have climbed up to second place in the ISL table with their win over East Bengal and are just three points behind league leaders Bengaluru FC after six matches.
Consistency is, of course, the name of the game for the Mariners if they aspire to retain the ISL league Shield title. It remains to be seen if Jose Molina changes his winning combination in Mohun Bagan’s next game against Hyderabad FC on 30 October.
