Mohun Bagan will look to continue their winning run of form.

Mohun Bagan look to add to their impressive winning run in the Indian Super League (ISL) when they host a shaken Kerala Blasters side at the Salt Lake Stadium (Kolkata) on Saturday (14 December).

The Mariners will look to maintain their stellar momentum and stretch their lead at the top of the table, but face a hungry Kerala Blasters side who have enough firepower to cause an upset if taken for granted.

The Stakes

Mohun Bagan

The Mariners are flying high on a seven-match unbeaten run in the ISL, having won six of those matches and also keeping clean sheets in their last three games. Jose Molina will ensure that his side can maintain their rhythm in being able to maintain a sturdy shape, but also be decisive in the final third to produce an entertaining display.

Another big home win can definitely help Mohun Bagan strengthen their grasp on the ISL league shield title, but a draw or a loss to this out-of-form Kerala Blasters side be particularly gutting.

Kerala Blasters

Mikael Stahre’s side have hit a bit of a slump in recent games, coming after the back of two really frustrating losses. The gaffer has enough quality in his squad, but he just needs to get them to be more clinical in executing their moves ideally. He’ll need his side to be defensive much more sharper and compact than they were against Bengaluru FC, knowing that faiilign to do so can cause an embarrassment.

A draw won’t be the worst result, but a win for Kerala Blasters can significantly rejuvenate their spirits before the end-of-year stretch. One more loss, however, can make them fall far behind in the top-6 race.

After failing to start Mohun Bagan’s lsat four games due to an injury and fitness issues, Greg Stewart seems primed to start against Kerala Blasters. The Scotsman has made a significant impact in the Mohun Bagan attack after joining them this summer, as he’s already provided five assists and scored a goal in eight appearances.

Stewart has that ‘midas touch’ in his possession, allowing him to set up chances that not many other can in the ISL. He’ll look to use that special creativity to torment the Kerala Blasters backline and set up big chances for his side. As long as Stewart can nail his final third passes and put things on a plate for his teammates, Mohun Bagan can run riot at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Noah Sadaoui (Kerala Blasters)

Noah Sadaoui has showed signs of improvements in Kerala Blasters’ last few games, having three goal contributions (one goal, two assists) in the last three games.

But it’s now his time to produce a really explosive performance that validates the team’s decision of paying big money for him this summer. Sadaoui has to show that he can torment the best defenders in the league and be at his ruthless best in the big games.

He’ll look to torment the Mariners’ backline with his smart off-the-ball runs and use his clever dribbling to get near the opposition box. Sadaoui has to be decisive with his passes in the final third as well as finishing whatever chances that come his way, while he also needs to be proactive in the counter-attacks. If he can tap into his clinical instincts, the Moroccan winger can turn things in his favor at the Salt Lake Stadium.
