Petr Kratky helped Mumbai City win the ISL Cup last season

Last season’s Indian Super League (ISL) Cup winners Mumbai City FC have had a slow start to their 2024-25 campaign and are currently on the sixth spot. The Islanders’ 3-0 loss at home to Jamshedpur FC last night has further hampered the mood at the club.

Playing at the Mumbai Football Arena, Khalid Jamil’s Jamshedpur FC completed the double over Mumbai City this season. The second-half goals of Mohammed Sanan, Jordan Murray, and Javi Hernandez helped the Red Miners get all three points, taking them to the second spot in the ISL table.

Following the loss, a section of the Mumbai City supporters booed the team as they headed towards the tunnel. Chants of “Kratky Out” also rang around the stadium as the fans showed their displeasure towards their current manager.

Why did the Mumbai City supporters chant against Petr Kratky?

Mumbai City FC have won just three of their eight ISL games at home so far this season. In comparison, the Islanders had won seven of their 11 home games last season as they finished second on the standings behind Mohun Bagan, missing out on the ISL Shield.

Petr Kratky’s side has suffered three losses at home, all with a 3-0 scoreline. City’s losses have come to Punjab FC, NorthEast United, and most recently Jamshedpur FC.

Mumbai City were being considered as one of the contenders for the ISL Shield once again this season. However, these losses at home, clubbed with the ISL Cup winners underperforming in most games has made their fans unhappy.

A few members of the West Coast Brigade – Mumbai City’s supporters group were seen arguing with the midfielder Yoell Van Nieff after the 3-0 loss to Punjab FC in November. The fans were unhappy about the chances that were missed by the home side on that night.

MCFC couldn’t score a goal even though they had an expected goals (xG) ratio of 1.70 against Punjab FC and missed a few sitters in the game. The Shers had an xG of 1.23 in the game but made the most of their chances to get all three points.

Petr Kratky’s report card

Overall, Petr Kratky has managed 33 ISL games at Mumbai City since joining the club in December 2023. In this, the Czech manager has a win percentage of 54.55% and a points per game ratio of 1.88 with the ISL Cup winners.

However, Kratky’s numbers have dropped in the Islanders’ current campaign. If we just consider the 24-25 ISL season, so far the Mumbai City manager has a win percentage of 40% and he has won 1.53 points per game in the league.

With nine games to go, Petr Kratky’s MCFC would have to step on the gas to confirm a playoff berth. Can the manager win back the confidence of the Mumbai City FC supporters? Let us know your thoughts…
