The Islanders have managed a solitary point after two games.
Petr Kratky’s Mumbai City FC, the reigning Indian Super League (ISL) champions, have had a challenging start to their title defense, securing just one point from their first two matches. Their first outing against Mohun Bagan saw them display resilience, coming back from a two-goal deficit to claim a hard-fought draw at Salt Lake Stadium.
However, their second match against Jamshedpur FC revealed their vulnerabilities, as they squandered an early lead while conceding three goals and suffering a defeat at the Furnace. Petr Kratky, the man behind Mumbai City FC’s triumph last season, remains optimistic despite the early setbacks.
Acknowledging the team’s defensive lapses, with five goals conceded in two matches, Kratky emphasized the need for improvement in discipline, work rate, and teamwork ahead of their crucial home fixture against the unbeaten table-toppers, Bengaluru FC.
He remains proud of the team’s offensive prowess, having scored four goals so far and believes that addressing these key areas will restore the side’s balance and stability.

Petr Kratky’s take
Ahead of their first home game against Bengaluru FC, Petr Kratky remains optimistic and determined despite Mumbai City FC’s slow start to the season. He acknowledged the difficulty of playing two consecutive away matches but believes that his team showed resilience under challenging conditions.
Petr Kratky said, “I will always tell them there are no guarantees in this world. We have to work hard from the first minute to the last minute. There will be three things that we need to stack in. It’s just the discipline, focus on our work rate, and working together as a team.”
As they prepare to face an in-form Bengaluru FC at the Mumbai Football Arena, Kratky insisted that it’s time for his players, especially the recruits, to rise to the occasion. He dismissed the notion of giving them more time to adjust, emphasizing the importance of immediate responsibility and delivering high-quality performances.
Petr Kratky is acutely aware of the challenge Bengaluru FC poses, especially with their flawless record of three wins and three clean sheets.
He underscores the importance of discipline, focus, and a strong collective effort, ensuring that individual brilliance does not overshadow the team’s overarching objective. He stated, “Bengaluru FC were the best team in the park and they won the games clean sheets, three clean sheets. For me, they are the best team in the league at the moment. But again, as I said, the advantage of three home games, it also maybe plays a little bit of an advantage because we play two games away.”
Petr Kratky aims to not only secure three crucial points but also to provide an entertaining display for the loyal West Coast Brigade, who have high expectations as the team takes to the field on home turf.
Hungry for victory, Kratky believes that with the squad’s undeniable talent, Mumbai City FC is ready to unleash their full potential and compete fiercely against the formidable table-toppers, Bengaluru FC.
