Khel Now revealed a few days back Vinit Rai’s new destination.

Vinit Rai, a player who epitomised grit and determination in the midfield, bids farewell to Mumbai City FC as his contract expires on the 31st of May 2024. This departure, reported by Khel Now earlier, marks the end of Rai’s impactful tenure with the Islanders as he embarks on a new journey with Punjab FC.

Rai’s journey with Mumbai City began in the latter half of the 2021-22 season, when he arrived on loan from Odisha FC. Despite a brief initial stint, his influence on the field was undeniable. Rai’s composure and work ethic quickly earned him a place in the squad for the AFC Champions League. There, he featured in five matches, contributing significantly to the club’s historic group stage performance.

The loan move proved mutually beneficial. Rai gained invaluable experience playing alongside some of the league’s best talents, while Mumbai City benefitted from his steady presence and determined play. His efforts were pivotal during the club’s remarkable run in the AFC Champions League and the subsequent domestic competitions.

Rai’s departure is bittersweet. He leaves Mumbai City with a commendable record of 58 appearances and two goals. His tenure saw the team win the ISL League Winners’ Shield in the 2022-23 season and lift the ISL Cup in 2024 after a triumphant victory over Mohun Bagan

In his social media message, Vinit Rai expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to play for Mumbai City FC. He highlighted the unforgettable memories made during the AFC Champions League and Indian Super League, showcasing his appreciation for the club and its fans.

Mumbai City FC acknowledged Rai’s contributions with a heartfelt tweet, thanking him for his dedication and wishing him well in his future endeavours. As Rai joins Punjab FC, Mumbai City supporters will undoubtedly follow his progress, remembering him as a player who gave his all on and off the pitch.
