This initiative from NorthEast United will nurture young talents in the state of Meghalaya.
In an effort to further the promotion of football, NorthEast United have collaborated with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs of Meghalaya to establish a residential football academy in Shillong.
The announcement was disclosed during an event hosted by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at North Eastern Hill University in Shillong, which was attended by over 500 youths from various parts of the state. As a part of this initiative, a land in Mawkhanu, East Khasi Hills, under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, will be designated for NorthEast United which will be used to build the academy.
This facility will serve as an academy to train NEUFC teams and the young people of Meghalaya, offering them an enhanced environment to develop their skills in the sport.
NorthEast United also shared a video on their official Twitter (X) account, featuring club owner John Abraham addressing the upcoming plan that the club will be following.
In the video, while showing a piece of paper to the people present at the event, John said, “Thank you for the warm welcome. I would like to thank the honorable Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. This means a lot. This is going to be the first residential football academy in the North East.”
“We want the best talent from here, in this academy. We want them to represent our club North East United FC and I promise you, we will win titles soon. I also promise you, we will be the best residential academy in the country,” he added.
Even Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also expressed his happiness about the project and also took to his Twitter (X) account to declare about this initiative by posting a photo with John Abraham. He wrote, “Happy to announce Government of Meghalaya’s partnership with JohnAbraham and NEUFC for establishing a football residency academy in #Shillong.”
