NorthEast United bid farewell to Manvir Singh, Gani Nigam & three other Indian players: ISL

NorthEast United are yet to make any new signings for the upcoming season.

NorthEast United FC have announced the departure of five Indian players as the club embarks on a period of squad restructuring ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season.

Gani Nigam, Gaurav Bora, Hira Mondal, Manvir Singh and Rochharzela, who have all been essential members of the Northeast United side over the previous few seasons, have all decided to take a different route in their football careers.

Players journey

Manvir signed a three-year contract with ISL team NorthEast United on October 31, 2021. He made a total of 14 games and was awarded 19 caps for the Northeast squad in the previous season.

Gani joined NorthEast, on October 29, 2021. On December 10, he made the team bow in a 1-0 loss to Odisha. He appeared in six games for NorthEast United by the end of the season.

Gaurav Bora moved from Odisha FC to NorthEast United, on August 25, 2022. This season, he participated in 12 games. Hira Mondal, a young defender, made four appearances for the club.

Rochharzela signed a three-year contract with NorthEast United in 2020. In 12 appearances during the 2020–21 Indian Super League season, Rochharzela scored one goal.

On November 20, 2021, he made his ISL debut in the 66th minute of a game that finished in a 2-4 loss, substituting for V.P. Suhair. On December 4, he scored a goal for NorthEast United in a 2-1 victory over FC Goa. He will depart from the club on a good note, having played five games for the team this season.

Reactions on departure

The departures mark a significant change for Northeast United as they look to build a new squad for the upcoming season. Head coach Juan Pedro Benali has stated that the club is aiming for a more dynamic and versatile team, and these changes reflect that vision.

The departures of these players have generated mixed reactions from fans. Some have expressed their disappointment. Others have acknowledged the need for squad changes and are optimistic about the club’s future.

Northeast United has not yet announced any new signings, but it is expected that the club will be active in the transfer market in the coming weeks as they look to build a team capable of challenging for the ISL title.
