Odisha FC have only won one trophy in their ranks.

Odisha FC made their debut in the Indian Super League in the 2019-20 season. Their initial seasons were marred by inconsistent performances, which saw them languishing in the bottom half of the table. From Stuart Baxter to Kiko Ramirez, gaffers changed, yet their hopes of reaching the ISL playoffs remained a distant dream.

Things changed after the current Aston Villa U21 coach, Josep Gombau, took over the reins in the 2022 season. Despite a lacklustre performance, the Juggernauts managed to somehow make it to the ISL Playoffs, only to get eliminated in the first knockout game. After the club mutually parted ways with the Spaniard, the Hero Super Cup 2023 surprisingly saw the club winning their first ever silverware.

Clifford Miranda became the first Indian coach to win the Super Cup

After Gombau’s departure, Clifford Miranda took over as the interim coach. The Juggernauts were drawn alongside strong opponents like Manolo Marquez’s Hyderabad FC, East Bengal FC and Aizawl FC as well. Much to everyone’s surprise, the Kalinga Warriors remained unbeaten in the group stage and advanced to the semi-finals.

They had a formidable opponents in the form of North East United FC waiting for them in the second semi-finals at Manjeri. Wilmar Jordan Gil sent shockwaves across the coastal state after breaking the deadlock in the 2nd minute. But the Juggernauts bounced back after Nandakumar Sekar scored a brace, and a goal from Diego Mauricio secured their place in the Finals.

Bengaluru FC entered the game as the favourites. But Diego Mauricio was keen to make that night a historic one for the club. He scored a brace in the 23rd and 38th minutes to help them take a lead in the first 45 minutes. Despite Sunil Chhetri converting a penalty in the 85th minute, they couldn’t get an equaliser. The underdogs were no more trophyless as they went on to win the Hero Super Cup and secure a spot in the AFC Cup 2023.

Sergio Lobera’s Odisha FC became the South Zone Winners in the AFC Cup

Odisha FC went on to knock out defending ISL Shield Winners, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Bangladesh’s Basundhara Kings, Maldives’ Maziya to top the group and qualify for the Inter-Zone Semi-Finals of the AFC Cup 2023.

However, their dreams to conquer Asia were demolished after losing badly to the Central Coast Mariners in the Inter-Zonal Semi-Finals. Despite a trophyless campaign in Asia, the Juggernauts made the nation prouder after putting up a valiant show against the best sides of the continent.
