East Bengal FC head coach Oscar Bruzon will be eager to get their fourth straight win in the Indian Super League (ISL) when they host Bengaluru FC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Sunday (2 March). The Red & Gold Brigade desperately needs three points to keep their ambitious dreams of getting into the ISL playoffs alive.

Ahead of the game against the Blues, the Spaniard candidly shared his thoughts ahead of the big encounter during the media presser.

Oscar Bruzon is aware of Bengaluru FC threat

Before facing a tricky Bengaluru FC side that has already qualified for the playoffs. Oscar Bruzon, for one, isn’t that worried about simply having to neutralize Sunil Chhetri’s threat because of the variety of dangerous players in the opposition side.

While talking about the danger of facing an in-form Bengaluru FC, he stated, “Bengaluru FC has good players all around the team, that is why they’re always in the playoffs situation and challenging for titles.”

He also stated, “We need to understand them as a strong unit. If they have the control of Sunil Chhetri on the left, they have a lot of speed wit Rhys Williams on the right, they have a positional striker, they have one of the best playmakers in Alberto Noguera. They have a fast Naorem Roshan Singh. It’s not about how to neutralize one player, but how to neutralize them as a team.”

He added that the Torchbearers need to display intention, purpose and perseverance in their battle for survive, to stay alive in the competition.

East Bengal FC have a super substitute of their own

In their recent 2-0 win over Hyderabad FC, David Lalhlansanga played a key role in helping East Bengal by making a positive impact off the bench. Bruzon was full of praise for the striker and his quality from the bench.

He stated, “We have plenty of important players to finish our games, one example if David Lalhlansanga. Everything he has a chance, 20-30 minutes, he comes into the pitch to improve the team and also capitalize to convert for goals. He’s a key player, but he’s a player for us in that super sub role.”

While talking about Lalhlansanga, he stated, “David is having a brilliant season, he isn’t starting a lot of games but he’s giving a lot of capital. Whenever he’s on the pitch, we can use him as an offensive weapon and as an energy weapon to dropping back and heling midfielders in the final stages of the game.”

Oscar Bruzon is aware of his responsibility

While he admitted that players like Lalhlansanga deserve more minutes, he emphasized and called for greater focus to get the best out of his players. It’s been a challenging season for the Torchbearers, however, the key for the team remains optimising the squad ahead of key games this season

While taking the example of Lalhlansanga, he shared thoughts about his responsibility, stating, “He adapts very well to every moment and all the positions of the attack. Having him in the team is a pleasure for all of us. My part is every time on the pitch, he’s showing he has to be on the pitch.”

Ahead of a must-win fixture against the Blues, Oscar Bruzon is aware of the stakes this season. As his side aspire to make the ISL playoffs this season, the stakes are heavily stacked against Bruzon and his men as they have hit top form possibly at the best time.
