Oscar Bruzon was very happy with the performances of his players.

Oscar Bruzon’s East Bengal produced a sensational second-half comeback to pick up a thrilling 4-2 win over Punjab FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Tuesday (17 December). Despite going 2-0 down in the half, they roared back with four unanswered goals through Hijazi Maher, PV Vishnu, Suresh Meitei (OG) and David Lalhlansanga to get three huge points at home.

After the game, Oscar Bruzon was all praise for Vishnu’s impact in which he scored a goal and provided an assist in the second half. Oscar Bruzon stated: “One of the problems I tell you is the sectors of the pitch. In the first half, some players worked as shadows in the actions of the pitch. At the half, we saw they were making triangles with the ball, circulating with it and playing very easily. We only made two fouls in the first half despite not having the lion’s possession.

“We were not having control in central areas and our point of the team is that Cleiton Silva had to play deeper to help the central areas, and when you have more control in central areas, the wingers benefit from that. That is exactly what happened with Vishnu in the second half when we found more control in central areas, Vishnu got into one-on-one actions with the right-back of Punjab. He was differential and one of the key points for making the comeback effective,” Oscar Bruzon added.

The Spaniard also praised captain Cleiton Silva for his key role in the comeback, as he stated: “Cleiton is showing that he’s a proven player. He’s been a top scorer in a couple of leagues for three or four seasons. With the problems we’ve had with attacking players, Cleiton—especially in the second half—was one of the players who made the difference and helped the midfielders.

“He had the control that we didn’t have in the first half and today he showed that he’s more important than just one striker. He’s the captain, he understood that in the second half, we needed to bring up our game and he also helped control the central areas,” Oscar Bruzon also added.

East Bengal will aim to maintain their momentum when they host Jamshedpur FC on Saturday (21 December) and get closer to the ISL top-6.
