East Bengal coach Oscar Bruzon was happy with his player’s performance recently.

East Bengal are set to host an in-form Odisha FC side as the first of the three successive home games up next in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Thursday (12 December).

The Red & Gold Brigade are coming off the back of a two-match winning streak, but face Sergio Lobera’s side when they’ve started to pick up form and are on a four-match unbeaten run themselves.

The Juggernauts are also currently the highest scorers in the ISL, having scored 23 goals in 11 games so far. East Bengal are guaranteed to face a tough task despite having gotten clean sheets in their last three games, as Oscar Bruzon explained how they can keep Lobera’s side quiet and stated, “Two weeks ago, we had a similar story as NorthEast United were the top scorers, they came here and they couldn’t score. I’m happy as these games allow us to show the power of our unit, the consistency of our defensive line and the continuity of the clean sheet.

“We have additional motivation to do things well tomorrow. They have attacking players in deeper roles, Ahmed Jahouh plays in a line of three centre-backs, but he’s the one starting all the attacks. (Hugo) Boumous is there in between the lines and pockets of spaces. He’s a very creative player and you can see he’s much more effective than the previous season and speed of the wingers.

“They will not face the positions they faced in the last matches. They like to provoke situations in the game, which probably we won’t provoke. Probably tomorrow, we will not bite the trap they try to set. They’d want us to press higher up than we normally do, so if we can control central areas and provoke the situations we want, they will not have an easy task to score goals against us,” Oscar Bruzon also added.

Oscar Bruzon also believes his side needs to capitalize on getting maximum points in their next three home games, despite facing injury concerns to the likes of Saul Crespo and Dimitrios Diamantakos. He claimed: “We are excited to come back to our home ground for this match. In the last weeks, there have been positive noise and expectations from our team. We hope our fans come in numbers for tomorrow’s game because we are in a delicate situation regarding injuries. We need all the chanting.

“The reality is we’ve been working very well, we won’t find excuses. We have a tough rival for tomorrow, we have a complicated situation sin terms of injuries. I hope that it doesn’t affect the opposite, I hope it will reinforce the local players’ spirit, the excitement to play at home and continue on the performances we’ve recently been doing.

“My talk for this is going to be very positive as we have a strong belief that in the next three games, it’ll depend most of the stakes of the season. What I’m looking at on the pitch is that players are fully determined and confident, but we must transmit that onto the pitch for our next three home games,” Oscar Bruzon finished.
