Oscar Bruzon also praised his player’s effort ahead of the game.
Oscar Bruzon’s East Bengal are determined to kick off 2025 in style when they host a shaky Mumbai City FC side in the Indian Super League (ISL) clash on Monday (6 January). The Red & Gold Brigade can move closer to the playoffs top-six spot with a win over the Islanders.
Ahead of this clash, Oscar Bruzon insisted that his side’s primary objective is to secure a top-six finish at the end of the league stages and get to the ISL playoffs for the first time. Oscar Bruzon explained: “The objective of this club is being at the top six, I’m not afraid of announcing that. If we don’t reach that, the club will evaluate the reasons for that. For now, we take things game-by-game and final-by-final to get into the final bits of the season to be in the possibility of being in the top six.
“If we keep thinking about top-6, that gives an additional pressure. It’s not like not being at the top six the season will be a failure because we regrouped after a very bad beginning of the season. For us, it’s important to think about making the home a fortress and our life is not only being in the top-six. Hopefully, we achieve it, but if we don’t then we want to be proud to wear this badge and ensure that 2025 is the year of transition for East Bengal to be in the best position in the ISL,” Oscar Bruzon also added.
Oscar Bruzon praises Mumbai City
The former Mumbai FC head coach has a lot of respect for Mumbai City FC’s quality even though they are coming into the game at the back of a 3-0 thrashing from NorthEast United. Detailing the Islanders’ strengths, he stated: “Mumbai City are among the best teams in the league. They have a particular style of play in 4-3-3, trying to make buildup and dominate on the opposition side.
“They have wingers with speed and good centre-midfielders. They are not converting chances that are expected for such a powerful team, but they’ll come with the pain of the last defeat they had. It’ll be a difficult game, but we are aware of their strengths which we’ll try to neutralize and capitalize on our chances.
“We are having problems with the transitions team, who are very fast in their attacks and play more vertically. I think they have a playing style that fits very well with what we’re doing. We are a consistent unit in central areas, can employ a middle block and we want to share the possession of the game,” he finished with.
