Silva’s performances have improved greatly under the coach’s guidance.

Oscar Bruzon’s East Bengal are set to play their final match of 2024 when they travel to face Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday (28 December).

The Red & Gold Brigade are looking to get their third straight win in the ISL and move even closer to the top six in the table heading into the new year.

Ahead of the match, Oscar Bruzon was all praise for Cleiton Silva’s impressive performances in recent games and his revival under his coaching. He stated: “When people asked me what is happening with Cleiton, I told everyone clearly that Cleiton is on his way and is improving. The reality is that he could not enjoy a full pre-season as he had some physical issues.

“That is part of the past, he is now consolidated in the team and is an important player for us. We are enjoying the best version of Cleiton after seeing him in the last practice sessions,” he also quipped.

Bruzon also had kind words for East Bengal’s Indian players and believes he has a strong enough core to help them replace injured players like Saul Crespo and Madih Talal. He claimed: “I think in these times when we have many injuries, we can prove we have a base of very good Indian players. We don’t have the depth like other teams probably, but the players are enjoying their time here.

“They are sustaining within the team in these bad times when we had to rotate our foreigners due to injuries. We have a good collection of Indian players and that they know about that. The Indian core is one of the areas of East Bengal that we feel is strong and one we don’t have to look after. The team is in good hands,” he also added.

East Bengal could potentially move to two two-point distance to the top six with a win over the Nawabs at the Gachibowli Stadium at the weekend.
