ISL 2023-24 Playoffs: FC Goa vs Chennaiyin FC – Build-up

FC Goa are set to clash with Chennaiyin FC in the upcoming knockout playoff fixture as the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) playoffs commence. The contest is set to take place at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa on 20 April 2024 which gives a slight home advantage to the Gaurs who finished third in the league stage.

The Marina Machans will be under pressure facing a side, in their backyard, that has been undefeated in the last five matches. Having said that, the nature of the knockout fixture tends to produce surprising results and Manolo Marquez will be wary of any complacency.

FC Goa narrowly missed out on a top-two finish in the 2023-24 ISL league stage which would have ensured a direct semi-final berth for them. The outfit has to deliver a trophy for the fans after bringing in the likes of Manolo Marquez and several other notable players at the start of the season. This is what the highly ambitious FCG has been building towards, therefore, motivation is in abundance to win.

Chennaiyin FC will be the underdogs heading into this ISL playoff. Owen Coyle’s men had to fend off competition from several teams to reach this stage. The mood will be high in the camp after recent wins over teams like Odisha FC, Mohun Bagan, Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United. Therefore, the outfit will back itself to secure a win against the Gaurs after losing to them in the last league game of the season.
